Thanks Taiko, your help is appreciated. I am not sure if you misread my post, or if I didn't write it very well, but it is just my Husband studying, I work Part-Time.

Savvy Sue, thanks for the help. I work 24 hours per week and will try to get extra hours, but up until now it has fitted in well with School hours for our older child. This has all come around in a very short space of time as up until now my Husband had decided if he failed his exams he would not go back again in September. It would have been a shame though as he has worked so hard. He has been applying for part-time work so hopefully we will muddle through. It's such a juggling act with School hours, Nursery fees and trying to work hours to use the least paid childcare possible. It'll be worth the drama in the end though we hope!

Ok, on properly reading it (remember the tired comment?), entitlement should be the same as it was last year. So if you want to use the childcare, providing your income from part time work hasn't changed then there wouldn't be any difference in entitlement.

However, to qualify, he must be attending lectures. Post reads as if he is, so I don't see any problems.

Going back to my earlier question about student transfers to another university, we have now spoken to our daughter's current uni and they haven't been very helpful.

Am I right in thinking that all transfers must be requested through UCAS? Does the current university actually need to do anything else?

I do not believe they do have to be done purely through UCAS. However, I only have full knowledge of finance matters. Hopefully someone with a bit more understanding will pick it up. May be worth creating a thread for.

Hi, I am new to this forum and would like some advice if possible.

When I was 18 and left school I went on to a university degree course, did 2 years and didn't finish it.

I am now 29 years old and a mature student with a son of nursing, about to go into my third year and all my student support is set up etc.

I have evaluated my life over this past year through my father and mother both passing away within months of each other, and have decided this is not the course for me and wish to change courses to a undergraduate teacher training course and have been offered an interview for a Sept start. I have telephoned the student loans company and they have said I will not be entitled to any student tuition fee loans, or grants or a living expenses loan. Is this the case? And if it is is there any other support or a different way around this issue?
If you can offer any advice I would be most grateful, many thanks x

SFE are correct. You'll be restricted in year one of the new course. No entitlement to a fee loan or maintenance grant, ok to apply for all other support though.

little green car, in the light of what Taiko says, I'd suggest that there are other routes into teaching which it could be worth exploring. Take a look here, and see what you think.

And I am sorry for your losses: I can see that this would make you evaluate your life, but do be sure that you're not doing anything as a knee-jerk reaction to your parents' deaths, if that makes sense.

    Thanks for this Taiko.
He will be attending lectures over two days. The University thinks SFE will only release a pro-rata entitlement as he is attending less than full-time. I don't know whether I'm coming or going at the moment! When SFE they said they needed a letter from the University stating exactly how much time he will be attending etc, before they will release any funds.

The university are wrong. There's a specific provision for this within the regulations, and SFE's own internal guidance grants full support provided you are enrolled on a full time course, which your husband would be, albeit attending part time.

Oh thank you so very much! You have no idea how helpful you are. That is a huge relief.

    Kindest regards
  • Hiya

sorry for all the questions lately -

my partner is now a full time student also studying a foundation degree as of today, he has also had previous study (but no compelling reasons) i am aware that he cant get help with tuition fee loans, will he be able to get any help with maintenance grant, maintenance loan, adult dependant grant, parent learning allowance or special support grant at all?

also i would like to now apply for a special support grant, i rang SF but they cant do this over the phone as I have applied for a maintenance grant (although that isnt sorted yet, but its being handled by the complaints team) is this right? and should i request this in writing now?

    thank you

No entitlement to maintenance/special support grants for husband, as eligibilty to those is based on entitlement to fee support.

If you're both students, there's no entitlement to ADG. Need to double check guidance on PLA though.

All depends on the new university. In theory everything should go through ucas as this helps the uni'[s keep tabs on their numbers and prevents anyone holding two places. In practice if the new university wants to allocate a place without going through ucas it could do so. AIUI this could happen if the old uni was delaying releasing the place.
