There is also the question of what to do when out with friends/round at people's houses - is it okay to take an evening off when on the Sole Source program? Also, will I have the energy on the CD to go out for a run/long walk/any other exercise?

Yep, not having to cook or think what you're having is a no brainer, just open a pack, eat/drink, get on with your life. I really needed this as I focus far too much time and energy on food so I had to take it out of the equation for a while. I had a very positive experience of CD. Never felt ill, hungry or malnourished. The only side effect I suffered was my nails got a bit brittle. I lost 8st in 9 months and did lots of walking nearly everyday with no problems, I don't do running or gyms so I can't comment on that.
Loose skin did worry me as I had so much to lose and have had 3 kids, but i didn't look half as bad as I thought I would tbh. It kind of went through phases of looking loose then seemed to catch up a bit and tone up (sorry if TMI). I think a lot of it depends on how elastic your skin is generally, some people are luckier than others with this.
I only have 3 packs as I'm 5'3" and that cost me £39 a week. I balanced this cost against not buying lunches at work @ £3 a day, no bottles of wine on a weekend and a bit of a drop in the family food budget. You can't really take a weekend/evening off on Sole Source as it'll muck up your weightloss and is harder to get back into once you been off it. In that respect it is pretty unsociable but you wouldn't need to be on it indefinitely, 3-4 months at the max. Is your bf going to cook for himself or will you still have to do that for him? I would say it's pretty insensitive of him if he thinks you need to lose weight but doesn't agree with dieting, not everyone is able to do vast amounts of exercise and eat what they like and keep trim.
Weightloss varies, some weeks I'd lose lots, some weeks I'd stay the same but lose inches. I'm very prone to water retention so had to make sure I always drank at least 3 litres a day. It would be naive to suggest it suits everyone, but it worked well for me. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks Helen and Rosie for your thoughts!
I have been thinking about just making up my own smoothie/soup/salad-based low cal diet, to make it easier to fit around friends and boyfriend, but of course that is me not putting myself first! Plus it wouldn't eliminate the cooking, and would probably lead to temptation.

Yes, he does think that because he can lose weight after a couple of weeks of no booze and a few games of squash, that it should be that easy for everyone, and doesn't understand that it is possible to give something your all and still have !!!!!! all to show for it! I am going to give some local CD counsellors a ring this week and get a feel for how they work. The price is an issue, but I can divert some money away from my savings account for a few months, if it will get me to the place I want to be! I'll report back here if I decide to go ahead with it.
Thanks again

I would be careful of doing your own low-cal diet because you may not be getting the right balance. Yes, CD is very low-cal but it also puts you in ketosis so you burn fat for your energy source. I can appreciate it's not ideal to become a social hermit for a while, but it is only a short while compared to the rest of your life.
My motivation was new clothes, lots of lovely things in 'normal' sizes. It was amazing to go to my wardrobe and know I could put on anything in there and it would fit me, rather than before - I had a couple of things that would fit and the rest 'I'll fit into one day' and hated having to wear the same things over and over and buy clothes on the basis that they were the only things that fit rather than because I really loved them.Over futile odds

Not posted on this thread for ages but am still sticking to SS. I agree with ciderwithrosie re: the clothes issue; getting up and having a choice of clothes is fantastic.
I've had 5 weigh-in's now and I've lost 21 lb! Yep a stone and a half!!Am finding it really easy as am not hungry, I've been out 3 times to friends house parties and not drank, when I've been invited I've just said I'll call for an hour but I've usually stayed longer.
- Got lots of energy - main reason for not being on the pc much! am getting stuff in the house done.
- dont exercise as such but do walk the dog/s (dog sitting this week).
- and am sleeping really well.
- And not missing alcohol one bit!
- Forgot to say I've not had bad breath.... mwah!

Hi all,
I have read some of this threadwith great interest and you have inspired me. I have an appointment with a CDC this evening and will be starting tomorrow. This is really scary for me as I am really worried about being starving and having bad breath but then I feel I am running out of options.
I joined SW 8 yrs ago and lost 4stone really quickly. I had another 3 stone to lose but decided to become a consultant for them. I ran two successful groups but never managed to lose any more weight myself. After 4 years I left SW and have manage to pile theweight on ever since. I have tried healthy eating, WW, RC, SS etc but have not lost it.
I feel like I need a time away from food and I also need to see some really quick results to motivate me. I now have about 7 stone to lose and in my dream world would like to have achieved that by next february when we go away. Is this possible?
Aside from the bars/soups/shakes etc is there anything else I can eat and drink at all? Is the hunger bareable and once you're in ketosis do you still feel it?
This is a big commitment financially for me and I need this to work so I apologise if my questions are a bit silly.
Thanks, Ging x0 -
Hi - I'm new to this thread, I did cambridge diet years ago, but I've recently lost 6 stone just through diet and exercise. But have hit a wall, put about 10lb back on, so now still have 2 stone to lose.
I want to give Cambridge another go, to break the wall.
The nearest person selling to to me works full-time, so it's a bit tricky to find a time to get to her.
If anyone has given up, but wants to sell me their left over shakes, pm me.
it does work, and after the first couple of days, you really don't feel hungry.0 -
hello all, I'm going back to Cambridge after last trying it 2 years ago.
I understand there's now two flavours of porridge, are they nice?
I used to love the Chocolate Mint and Fruits of the forest shakes, can anyone recommend any others please?
Also what meals can you have on the SS+ plan?
Thanks0 -
Hi everyone
I have just started Cambridge after doing Lighterlife two years ago, losing three stone and have piled on five since! Agghh!
I did it the first time for all the wrong reasons so now it's just for me! I'm hoping to lose four stones by the time I start uni in October.
I'm on day 2, nothing too bad, keep fantasising about Chinese takeaways but strictly told myself that's how I got here in the forst place. I've also been single forever and am approaching thirty and I think I would prefer to see it in with someone although obviously it's not the be all and end all.
The thread seems a wee bit quiet but it would be nice to have a diet buddy - anyone up for it?0 -
Hi Lozatron, I'm going back onto LL (using up old packs) on Sunday or possibly Monday, depending on how my hangover is, lol.
I was doing LL last year and lost nearly 8 stone before having a slipped disk in October, being off work, feeling very sorry and s*d it about life and weight and have put probably 4 stone back on!! This can't go on, so I need to get my head back in the right place and get slim, gorgeous and like you, maybe find a new man as I'm bored of being eternally single too, DD and I have a great life but it would be nice to share it sometimes.....
Well done with day 2, let's spur each other on and get to utter gorgeousness very quickly!!
