    Hi SEK,
A reformed lurker hey:rotfl:. You should have joined in ages ago.

I am not a medical expert in anyway shape or form. You will find differing attitudes from the medical profession.

Some will support VLCD as a way that works for many people when other options have failed. Others stick to the lose weight and exercise mantra which, lets face it, just dosent work for most of us.

VLCD's do seem to affect your hormones, many of us on here have discussed period issues, long ones, short ones, irregular, very heavy. But then so does weight loss, or gain for that matter.

I know I havent suffered from hair loss, but there can be many different reasons, which could be hormonal or stress related.

I would suggest your CDC isn't qualified to deal with this either.

Whats your GP like? If you have lost 4st already, the health benefits will be amazing, the stress placed on your heart, cholesterol will be down, your liver function and kidney function should be greatly improved by the lack of fats and toxins like alcohol you won't have had.

The packs are complete nutrition, with all vitamins and minerals needed for health, but maybe you should consider moving up a plan.
Many people report similar losses to SS on the 810, see if that makes any improvement on your health issues.

My GP's great, but shes sort of all or nothing. Like when I had a mole checked recently (which was fine) I was advised to wear long sleeves and long skirts / pants when I go on my hols.........mmmmm......I know it makes sense but I don't think I will follow it.
I havent discussed CD with her but I am due to go for repeat bloods - Oh sh!te, thats this month:eek:. - Sorry, I'm hoping for an improvement.

My cdc is great, she's been a cdc forever, she was on a TV show a few years back that Lorriane Kelly did about comparing different diets. CD came out quite well if I remember rightly. I have spoken to her about my hair & periods and she said both are common side effects and it's only temporary and everything returns to normal once food is re-indroduced. She's not overly concerned. I just don't know if it's cd or the op failed to do what it was suppose do that's effecting my periods:confused:. Don't know weather to be honest with the consultant or not. I have a fear of hospitals so I don't want to make the appointment worse by getting a lecture of the dangers of VLCD. I know the medical profession is very much divided on their views of VLCD and she may be very supportve.

Hi SEK - I think you need to be honest, if you are having treatment and undergoing ops, and we know that VLCD's affect periods, they won't be able to make a proper assessment of what is causing the problem.

I suspect that they will ask that you abstain from the plan so that they can evaluate your progress properly.

I know that you don't want to stop. Especially when you are on such a roll, but if you are undergoing treatment, you won't know whether its worked and could end up with more treatment or tests when you don't need them.

I'm a big CD fan, (not so good at staying on plan mind you) the program works if you let it! BUT, you need to consider your health first and foremost and if it means taking a break for a little while, if thats what they advise, it could be a good idea.

hi SEK - as another longer term CD-er, since Jan, i can relate to how you're feeling. I'm dreading real food full time, so am trying to stick on CD for a while if i can... (personal circumstances look like it might not happen much longer)

anyway about the hair loss, i am exactly the same..... a good 6-8 strands every time i brush... loads when washing and conditioning... and my hair hasn't grown much at all since then... haven't had a haircut since Feb!!

Did you have an Add a Meal week at 12 weeks? I think stepping up the plans might be a good thing for you, especially as it's giving a possible false negative result after your operation in february. Maybe even add an extra high protein low carb 200-300cals to your meals between now and the appointment.... you will probably still lose but even if you have to forfeit the loss you might get but you certainly won't gain anyway...

I fully expect the doc to tell you to come off it and get a truer picture of how you're body is coping...

In fact, why not go see own GP and discuss it prior to going to the consultant....

in fact - Duncs advice is better.... maybe you should take a month off.... if you;re careful you won't gain in that time... plenty time before the wedding to get back into it..
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

Thanks Duncan. Your saying the same as my hubby. I just don't want to have to stop when I've got so far. I know, from past experience of dieting, that I will pile the weight back on because I feel that I have failed by not getting to goal. No matter what good intentions I have. I know your right about being honest with the consultant may be she might give me another 6mths and review it again.

Hi Maz, I'm glad I'm not the only one losing hair, cdc says it's common but it's still a worry.
I didn't do the add a meal week, although I have added my own meal, lunch, snack, rubbish more than once lol. Cdc has never mentioned it.

I'm scared of taking a break in case I don't go back to it. I think I will look at moving up a plan though.

If you've got a good CDC, I'd have a chat with her.

Your biggest concern seems to be stopping and then just piling it back on. But you don't need to do that.

If you explain that you need to wean yourself off SS - just SS not CD totally - for a few weeks, get her to do you a plan. Then you still have the instructions to follow, to keep you on track and give you something to work with. Failed days will still feel like failed days, because you are still following a plan.
CD has loads of different plans going through the maintenance phases, you may need to move through them a bit quicker before you have reached goal so that you can assess whether your treatment worked or not, but once thats done you can move back to SS.

If you can establish that your treatment has worked and the hairloss is just a CD side affect, then you can hit the old SS big time.

You will still be losing, still be monitored, by introducing some food you will keep your consultant happy.

Don't give up now, 4 Stone - Fantastic, use your CDC's help, thats what they are there for.
My CDC still has people going to her for a weekly weigh in who came off CD ages ago!

    Hi all,

had my first weight in and had lost 7lbs. Stupidly i feel a little dissapointed in this as my scales at home said a 9lb loss but that is first thing in the morning with my b'day suit on ;). I have lost 2 inches from my waist though and my bmi has gone down from 30.5 to 29 which is great! This week i have vowed not to use the home scales!! :o 7lb in one week is something i could never normally achieve so i should be proud, i know!

I have one more weigh in next week then my cdc is on hols for two weeks but i have a months supply of everything in the cupboard so am still raring to go!!

Hi to everyone..just a quick stop while little fella's happy playong with his trains lol xxx
