    Need a bit of advice.

Moving to the USA next Wednesday, I have some cash to transfer to my US account.
£10k to be precise...I'm thinking of exchanging half now and half when I need it/when the rate starts going down.

I'm using XE.com for my money trading.

Who in their right mind wants to move to the US? ;)
I transferred £20k about a month ago. I got a rate of 1.5159 when the official rate was about 1.5350.
I used TorFX. They were excellent. Even when Halifax (my UK bank) decided i couldn't transfer all the cash in 1 go (even though there's nothing in the T&C's about it).
Took about 3 days from transferring from UK to receiving in US.

It's worth looking at the differing rate between £5k and £10k. It might be up to 1c. Don't sound alot. But it adds up.

Not sure what advice you want... but I'm sure you want the rate to go up, and not down!!

EDIT - I'd be interested what kind of rate you get for £5k / £10k too... I need to transfer £10k / £15k soon

I meant if the dollar goes down instead of up....you know what I mean I want more $$$!

Anyway well I'm getting 1.610 at the moment with XE.com

I could probably get more like 1.62 1.63 with Kensington Money Exchange or crown currency but I just want to transfer money between accounts and not cash/card.
  • creeping back up to 1.6375 now, after falling to 1.6320
Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk
    (MSE Andrea says ok!)

Well I'm going to have to lock in today at some point I need some money by a week today to use in the States so just going to have to choose the right moment.

Is there a consensus that the strengthening of the pound V the dollar will continue or are we going to plateau?

1.6 USD to the GBP is probably a fair and equal rate, would love for it to be back to 2.0 though!

I've been following the rate very closely for about 6 months.
I changed at 1.5350 and it's now 10c. I haven't used the money yet (delay on house / car purchase) so I think we can be pretty sure how good I am at predicting rates...
The "experts" don't have a clue either. It normally does the opposite of what they say!
Saying that, I was extremely happy at the time to trade at over 1.50...
