09:23 02Jul09 GBP/USD: Consolidating Losses, MPC Besley Comments Reported
[08:23 GBP/USD: Consolidating Losses, MPC Besley Comments Reported] London, July 2.
Cable is consolidating losses to a one-week low of 1.6330 as the market absorbs Reuters-reported comments from Tim Besley. The outgoing BoE MPC member says it is too early for the BoE to judge whether the BoE"s GBP 125bn QE APP is helping to boost GDP and avoid deflation (Besley exits the MPC on August 31). The next BoE monetary policy announcement is a week today (July 7).
GBP selling from an Asian FX Reserve Manager is being flagged as a factor in sterling"s drop to 1.6330. The ensuing recovery rally topped out at 1.6360. Yesterday"s low of 1.6381 is a resistance level above.
A quarterly BoE Credit Conditions Survey will be published at 08:30GMT,
alongside June"s UK construction sector PMI. The construction PMI is forecast to rise to 46.1, from 45.9 in May. BoE MPC member David Miles"s UK Treasury Committee Appointment Hearing is also scheduled to begin at 08:30GMT. Miles"s written response to a questionnaire will additionally be released at 08:30GMT (Miles joined the MPC on June 1).
The DMO is auctioning a GBP 2.5bn 2039 gilt this morning, with the result due shortly after 09:30GMTPlease take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk
