Typical...changed some money when it was 1.52 hoping for a rise...and now it is 1.49 with Caxton. First time to US since 2005...typical!

Sure, theres too many factors to work it out and its very manipulated. Producing money is the center of politics even though they give very little in exchange.
My guess is Japan is the biggest influence now and that is helping Dollars to stay high.
They have a big link, weak Yen tends to go there first I think

Not sure it helps but here is Dollar index in the last few years. In 2000 it was 120 and (not shown here) its 84 now so its not only UK which has lost value

    Every dog has its day
This is a place to be optimistic. Sterling is obviously disappointing weak vs dollar but its not gone to a new low.

Its rebounded from 1.5 quite cleanly, close the week here and despite appearance that is not so bad. Conversely at 1.61 if it should ever get there (or 1.56 midterm) we should then presume the worst and it'll plummet, markets play with people hopes.

Breach 1.5 and its all doom:p

It's up 4 cents in a fortnight, this dog aint done yet :cool2:
Sterling's rare superiority in the “fundamentals is seen in the charts of the global PMIs for manufacturing and services. For the first time in over 5 years, UK PMIs in both services and manufacturing have surpassed those of the US, China, Eurozone and Germany

Woke on Monday to hear that the pound is likely to fall by 15% against the pound. We bought our dollars! Now it's gone up 10 cents.

The trouble is that OH is maintaining that he didn't hear it! He was lying beside me, listening to the Today programme.

How are things, Neil? Bet the girls are busy now!

We have a new grandson and they have moved from lovely Florida to cold New Jersey!

Going to see them at end of month.
