Windows 7 Slow?

I'm actually not talking the price this time, I think I'd use OSX for a month or so then wipe the disc and put linux on it.
It think you really might be surprised. OS X is a fantastic OS, and it's set to get even better once 10.6 is released.
Linux is great, and I used to use it before I got a Mac; I much preferred it over Windows. I've never once felt the need to wipe OS X and install it though. I've vaguely considered dual-booting Ubuntu, but there's no point for me really, and I'd be doing it just because I can.0 -
My choices are atm as follows:

Or the 13' mac book 2.4ghz cpu and upgrade the rest. I like the big touch pad and the gestures thing I recon could come in handy as I use the few avaliable to me on my currently computer. And while I can afford one I've always been of the opinion of why pay more when you dont have to.
Linux wise its a bit of a hobby for me so it wouldn't matter how good OSX is, I'd probably end up keeping OSX though in a dual boot.0 -
They're both OK machines; it depends what you're after really.
I wouldn't bother paying £1,125 for the 2.4gHz MacBook, when you could get a 15-inch refurbished MacBook Pro for £24 more:

If I had a grand going spare, I'd be all over it.0 -
Thats true but can you get discounts on refurbs?0
-
You can't get education discounts on them, so I'm thinking probably not.
Your employer's discount might work differently though, so it might be worthwhile finding out.0 -
Cheers might give em a bell.
Do you think being a student of life would qualify me as a student?0 -

I told them I was studying the mating habits of the North American female, but they didn't buy it unfortunately.
Windows 7 is now installed on my Mac, and I spent a few hours this evening using it. First impressions: it's all right. I'm sure no one will be surprised to hear that I'm not blown away by it, but I will persevere. I'm pretty sure I loathe the new taskbar though. Maybe that'll change once I get used to it.
I don't know if it'll do anything to convince those who are (rightly or wrongly) unconvinced by Vista, but time will tell. I actually had better first impressions when I tried out Vista for the first time, though that could have been the novelty factor seeing as it was so different from XP.0 -
I feel so alone. I really like the new taskbar, with several copies of firefox running I just have 1 icon...which i can hover over to see a snapshot of each window
...What I really don't like is aero-snap..which automatically resizes windows as you drag them to the edge...sometimes I want windows to hang off the screen...so I turned that feature off (not as obvious how to do as you'd think!).
As someone who took some converting (and a service pack) to like vista...I'm very impressed with 7 from the outset...but I imagine you'll be a bit like a fish out of water having all your apps on OSX...and an empty 7 partition, one of the reasons I've not looked for an 'interesting' coopy of OSX to try...if I got one I'd still want to use my windows apps (insert appropriate smiley here)Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
I like the new taskbar...
didn't at first but then I found myself missing it on other OSes, so I must find it useful.
I dont like the shake thing though as its minimised my windows by accident on more then a few occasions0
