Windows 7 Slow?
Comments
-
How well does Windows 7 make use of quad core architecture, as I've heard this is not always fully utilised by Vista or XP?
Last time I looked into it the problem is that computer programs run in a linear way, where as to take advantage of multicores you really want things to run in parallel. Its a new way of programming and very hard to do apparently. Bit like the comptuer program trying to pat its head and rub is belly at the same time.0 -
@asininity and Marty J : Guys the Apple and Microsoft debate will go on forever so what is the point of trying to convert each other to your way of thinking. Its not going to happen. The way I see it Microsoft Overcharge the consumer on software but its hardware( mainly because hardware is nothing to do with them) is competitively priced, And Apples Macs come with lots of software but its Hardware is vastly overpriced for its specification. Lets comprimise and lets all go to LINUX0

Its not really new, the theory has been around for ages and multi-processer boards have been around for yonks too, building isn't so bad really its debugging.
race condition bugs only really crop up at runtime and they arn't usually easily repeatable, it might only happen every million times the code is run.
then again for general desktop applications a single core is more then fast enough anyway0 -

I'm a linux guy myself mostly I'm arguing PC against Mac for that reason. Both have there problems and benefits, hardware wise mac are PCs.0 -

Most of the contributors know each others' stance....leading to the lighthearted banter you see here today, rather than the nastiness that can be seen elsewhere. Nobody expects to convert anybody
@ asininity
" hardware wise mac are PCs" from 2 years ago...only more expensive...and prettier :rotfl:Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

Oh, as DatabaseError points out, we all know each other's point of view here, so there isn't really any malice behind anything. I'm not trying to convince Asininity to shell out for a Mac, and he's not trying to convince me to buy an Acer. He's happy with his computer, and I'm happy with mine, so it's win-win as far as I'm concerned.
PCs still suck though.0 -
My only computer atm is my lenovo netbook. Thats why I'm in the market for a 15 inch laptop, I am sorely tempted to buy a mac book, but think it would be wasted on me. Samsung is looking good though and so is acer.
I dont feel right if I dont have at least one argument/debate with marty a month. Even better when certain other mac and windows bigots start. L & P anyone?0 -
I know stupid personal computers are made with circuit boards, wires and other electronics! Macs arent made with that junk, they are made with........Love?
Electronics? Wires?!?
Don't be daft man, they run on the user's sense of self-satisfaction.
In a pinch, they can be run on the static from a black polo neck jumper:
The more threads there are, the more luxurious the jumper, and the faster it'll run.My only computer atm is my lenovo netbook. Thats why I'm in the market for a 15 inch laptop, I am sorely tempted to buy a mac book, but think it would be wasted on me. Samsung is looking good though and so is acer.
They're not cheap, I can't argue with that. The Refurb Store has some nice discounts though.I dont feel right if I dont have at least one argument/debate with marty a month. Even better when certain other mac and windows bigots start. L & P anyone?
I haven't seen either of them in weeks. Proliant normally appears whenever someone says something nasty about Microsoft; I hope they're both OK, and just busy back in the real world.0 -

I'm actually not talking the price this time, I think I'd use OSX for a month or so then wipe the disc and put linux on it. I can actually get a discount due to my job, not as good as the student discount but better than nothing.
The two pc laptops I'm looking at are better spec'd, one does full HD and has a tv tuner, the other is thinner and lighter.0
