I think the bero book has a choc fudge cake recipe that uses evaporated milk, i used to make it when I lived with my parents. Usually just use it for amazing rice puds now :)

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

Today I whizzed digestives, added melted butter, pressed into flan dishes. Evaporated milk and dark muscavado in a pan (quantities guessed, just kept adding until it tasted good and set when dropped in cold water), poured over biscuit base.

When cool, mixed fruits over the toffee, topped with whipped cream and grated choc.

We called it fruitoffee tart and it was scrum.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
  • I've found 2 tins of Carnation evaporated milk at the back of the tin cupboard which should have been used by the end of January so I thought I would make chocolate sauce with them but I've lost the recipe - can anyone help?

The one I used before also had some vanilla extract and good quality dark chocolate - I was sure it was a Nigella recipe but I've been through all the books and can't find it. the only other thing I remember was that I melted everything in the pot rather than melting in a bowl over boiling water.

    Thanks

    170g tin evaporated milk
    2tbsp milk
    225g dark chocolate

Make the sauce by simply placing the squares of chocolate in a bowl with the evaporated milk and the milk, then put the bowl over a pan of barely simmering water and allow the contents to melt, whisking from time to time until smooth and blended.

This is a sauce recipe that goes with a chocolate steamed pudding by Delia.

    Hi sarahsarah,

This thread has lots of ideas that should help:

    Evaporated Milk

I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep the suggestions together.
