Not quite! It's a good idea to change the routers SSID (network name) to something different from the default, so that you are sure that you are trying to connect to your own wireless network. Then get yourself a long random passphrase from here (64char ascii), save it to a notepad file so that you can copy & paste it into the routers WPA field in the wireless settings page.
Then when you disconnect the Ethernet cable and try to connect to your router using wireless, you will need to copy & paste exactly the same passphrase again on the PC when prompted, as your wireless network would then be secured.
Don't give up now!

Read post #53 again. Save the encryption passphrase to a file, as that is what you will need to enter into any PC connecting to your secured wireless network. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
The first thing I would do, is reset the router - usually you hold in a tiny button with a needle for 30 seconds, the modem resets itself and the settings are restored to factory default.
The reason you can't access http://192.168.0.1/ is because that's the IP of your computer - not the router. Looking at the blank Default Gateway above, I'd guess there is a configuration error on the router.
Control Panel > Network connections > Right click Local Area Connection and select Properties > Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties > Make sure Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are both selected > Press Ok and Ok again - if prompted to restart, do so.
Post the ipconfig /all results after that.

Ive entered the passphrase, its given me numbers in keys 1-4 but when i try to connect to it it asks for wep key im putting in the number it gave me in key 1 but nothing happens.
edit network diagnostic says it may be the firewall

You want the WPA-PSK one, then put in your desired password
