From all your help I think Im doing everything right, Im not on battery, wireless is switched off, Ive got the ethernet cable plugged in, but when I type in http:// 192.186.0.1 as It says on the bottom it just comes page cannot be displayed, Ive just had a thought could AVG or spyware terminator be blocking it Im going to try and switch them off and try it.
No thats not worked either!!
Ive just run network diagnostics and it said that http connection is fine but detected a problem with ftp(?) and it could be a firewall blocking it0 -
Does http://routerlogin.net work?
What's the exact error message?
Can you turn the laptop off, reset the router (put a pen / pencil in a very small black hole round the back, maybe near the grill section), wait 3 minutes, then turn the laptop back on? Keep it connected with an ethernet cable while you do this. Then try again.0 -
Cannot find "routerlogin.net"
will try switching off now

Ah okay. Go to start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> right click Local Area Connection -> Properties -> scroll down and highlight Internet Protocol (TCP /IP) -> Properties -> make sure Obtain an IP address automatically is selected, same with the DNS box below. Hit OK and OK again, reboot, and reset your router as above.
You may need to do the same with your wireless connection too.0 -

Have you checked that your Ethernet port is enabled?

Start, Network connections, right click Local Area Connection, Configure, Device usage (use this device (enable))
When you plug the Ethernet cable into the router the corresponding LAN light should come on. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
It is enabled, the light on the netgear modem is on , but there is no light on my laptop on and if i unplug it from laptop the light on the router goes off, so I assume it is configured?
