It is enabled, the light on the netgear modem is on , but there is no light on my laptop on

sorry about this please bear in mind that Im female and blonde!!

Most laptops don't have an Ethernet port light. Your default gateway should be 192.168.0.1 and your IP address should be say 192.168.0.2.

It may be worth disconnecting your modem, rebooting the laptop and then trying again. Then capture the ipconfig /all results when only the Netgear router is connected and post the results.

The first thing I would do, is reset the router - usually you hold in a tiny button with a needle for 30 seconds, the modem resets itself and the settings are restored to factory default.

The reason you can't access http://192.168.0.1/ is because that's the IP of your computer - not the router. Looking at the blank Default Gateway above, I'd guess there is a configuration error on the router.

Control Panel > Network connections > Right click Local Area Connection and select Properties > Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties > Make sure Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are both selected > Press Ok and Ok again - if prompted to restart, do so.

Post the ipconfig /all results after that.

If you right click Status on the Local Area Connection icon in the system tray, the Connection Status should say connected. Until you can get it connected, you won't be able to configure your router with your username/password and make a connection to your ISP.

That looks much better. You should be able to log into the router now and enter your username/password and connect. Remember that when you use the new router that you don't connect how you used to before using any modem software. The router connects to your ISP and then your PC connects to the router via cable or later on via wireless when you have configures the WPA encryption.

Your USB modem should not make any difference to connecting to your router. If you uninstall your USB modem, you won't be able to get on here for assistance.

Quick question, where did you get the router from? I only ask as some ISPs (e.g sky) have their own software burnt into them which restricts use to themselves.
Sorry if its an irrelevant question.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

No, but just unplug it while you're trying to sort out the router.

If you're still stuck, plug the USB modem back in again.
