    No still cant log in wirelessly, but I have noticed that my wireless network not connected says an atheros ar500g but it is a netgear, so Im wondering if thats a problem?

    that shouldn't be the problem as its more than likely the wireless chip/wireless chipset inside the laptop.

    Run through what you have done

    If the details on the router screen match the details in XP, it should work, and issue you with an ipaddress which will be listed when doing an ipconfig.

    SSID needs to be the same, wpa-psk/tkip needs to be selected, password should be the same 8 characters, connect when in range should be ticked.

    that is with ethernet plugged in.
    all the details in router screen are same as in xp, I did get a message saying passwords dont match, so i have reset them all everywher , on the router and xp.

    Does everything match now, not just the password, the other things?


    SSID
    WPA
    TKIP
    8 character password
    ticked apply to save changes on router screen?
    Enable Wireless Access Point ticked
    Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID) ticked
    setup access list all empty.


    Is the router second hand

    ssid , wpa tkip all match, i ahd to use a 13 character password it said it had to be 5 or 13 characters. have saved everything others are ticked. not sure about setup access list?

    no its a new router from amazon

    Are you sure you don't have wep ticked?

    WPA is minimum 8, maximum 63

    After any change click apply.

    Suggest you check again, set password to 12345678

    if that doesn't work, turn off encryption completely, then connect

    It was in the xp bit it said the password had to be 5 or 13 characters, not on the router hth
