router problem

Your ssid gives you away to the neighbours, you might want to choose something more anonymous
wpa is min 8, if it said 5 or 13, you have probably selected the wrong encryption type.
At this stage I wouldn't worry about the network name....they won't have the key anyway...and think you're right about the encryption type......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

When you have got your wireless sorted out, it would be a good idea to have a look at the speed of your connection.
You are syncing at 1.7mbps downstream, what service are you paying for?
It may be that you are a long way from the exchange, have noise on your line, dodgy internal wiring, or are only paying for a 2mbps service. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
In xp I have wpa-psk and TKIP ticked
Im with tiscali and pay 14.99 a month0 -
Umm for what speed? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Just back from the computer shop and it still doesnt work!!0

(you might want to copy this into word)
Still doesnt work? Reset the router and start again.
On your computer delete all your wireless profiles (see image below) To get to that go start > (hover over) connect to > right click on wireless network connection > properties
Remove all of them
Make sure you have:
Your ISP login and password
You ISP settings
*******Then*******
- Press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 30 seconds
- Plug the router into the computer via Ethernet
- Go to the login page for the router (see bottom of the router, it will be along the lines of http://192.168.1.1 / http://192.168.0.1
- Password protect your wireless with WPA-PSK (name the SSID WirelessOne so you know it's yours without personally identifying you (rather than netgear/your name)
- Enter in your ISP details under basic settings
Your done! that should work - pull the ethernet out, search for wireless, connect to your wireless name then your done0 -

Have you tried logging into the router and selecting no encryption? This would prove if it is an encryption issue. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
