Yes, come to think of it, that might be what she said - I just assumed it was the standard directory enquiries number, which is 118500 I think. Either way, I definitely did not dial 118866. Does anyone know who that number is run by if not BT? Is is someone trying to cash in on 18866?0

Did you check what number you had dialled on your telephone? You can usually see the numbers you have punched in.The only stupid question, is an unasked question ...0

Well in fact I was pressing the redial button for a number I'd rung about 10 minutes previously, and the previous time, it had worked perfectly normally, and rung the correct number.0

If you are with BT, report the fault, could be a scam but I bet BT don't take ownership of the problem - they usually blame the household where the phone is.The only stupid question, is an unasked question ...0

118866 is a directory service, I have been caught out once before dialing that number, made for an expensive call0

Well I don't know how new this company is, but it looks as if they have deliberately chosen a number which could "accidentally" be accessed by the many thousands of people who are using 18866 every day - sounds like a rip off to me!0

But yesterday, I rang a number which is programmed into my phone, including 18866, therefore there was no possibility of misdialling, and was immediately put through to directory enquiries. When I told the person that I had certainly not dialled directory enquiries, she said I must have misdialled, and put double 1 and dialled 118 500. I asked her if I was being charged for the call, and she said yes. I know for a fact that there was NO possibility of me misdialling as the number was on a memory button.
I told all this to my dad on the phone, as he is also on 18866, and he rang me a short while ago to say exactly the same thing had happened to him.
Has this happened to anyone else? I'm going to contact BT, but thought I'd try here first to see if anyone else has had this happen.
It's happened to me three times and when I reported it to BT they said that it had nothing to do with them.
I had to pay!

It's happened to me several times and I reported it to BT, but they said that there was nothing they could do about it.
I was told the same as you were told about the digit 1, although I have it on speed-dial. I e-mailed the Directory Enquiry Service (1188) and they told me the same as you have been told, that I must have dialled incorrectly. In my opinion, it it very suspect!0 -
Are Bt trying a spoiling ruse?
