Just grabbed one of these. OH has been wanting a laptop for a while now: he's not techy minded, just wants it for word processing/internet etc, so this is ideal.

Very good, thorough review - be aware that it is configured with different specs to the base model which has:
    slower processor
    less memory
    smaller screen
lower spec wireless card (although I've never had a problem with mine)
    smaller hard drive
    DVD rewriter (better than reviewers)
As such ignore the performance, the rest of the review describes the unit well and is a good guide to go by.

That's one of the improved specs:
Now has wifi and DVD burner.
Previous one at £299 wanted £35 for wifi and £55 for DVD burner.

 I just bought that £299 one and thought it was a bargain! Anyway to call them up and get the better model? (might be something in consumer act?)

Or am I just being greedy now...
    bad hair day...

I'm tempted as my 600mhz laptop is getting on a bit :D

But is the WiFi built in? And how long does the battery really last?

They claim 2 hours for the standard 4 cell and double if you opt for the 6 cell for an extra £11.75. And yes WIFI is built in.

Just ring them up and say you want to send it back, as you can now buy it for less money with more things included. Maybe they will offer you an incentive to keep it ;)
Thanks to all who post constructively.

Excuse me for sounding a bit thick, but can you set this up to watch dvds on your 'big telly' as id find the screen a bit of a struggle for watching films, also how long does it take to charge the battery and are there built in speakers. I have a big old pc and am looking for something smaller, i already have a decent printer and set of speakers so if i could carry on using these it would be ideal.
    many thanks

Also will this have enough power to download full films and burn em,
    sorry for the stupid questions
  • May be a stupid question but can someone tell me exactly what: 90-Day Collect and Return service means. does it mean i only get 90 day warranty, or that it takes upto 3 months to get a repair done!!

I had a laptop from novatech a few years ago and it caused me nothing but trouble. Had to get in touch with trading standards in the end. Am i right in thinking that if i brought this one, and didn't select the extended 3 year warranty/support, but something went wrong with it after 18 months, it would be covered under manufacturer as 18 months isn't a reasonable time in which the machine should not work.
