I couldn't tolerate the pill either. Used condoms before 1st daughter and the coil after. After my 3rd child I went and got stapled as hubby wouldn't do the honours (wimp). Best thing I ever did.

The coil is a good choice if you've already had a child. I never had any problems with it.

    Hi
I used to check my secretions to check on fertility, it worked for me, yes I know I have 4 kids, but I did want 4. If you want more details I can give you them, though I would suggest not reading about it whilst eating. I also successfully used breastfeeding as a form of contraception, this isn't reliable for everyone as you do need to be very aware of your bodies signals.

I will lend you my two DD's for a couple of weeks and that should put you off for life!!!

Personally I always find that a nice pair of DDs gets me going rather than puts me off, but perhaps we are talking about different things?

The snip stings a bit but isn't really that painful. I'll let you know in a few months whether it works or not.... :(

Entertainingly, I know someone who has had the snip and whose wife is now pregnant.....

As for old style contraception, condoms have been around for hundreds, if not thousands, of years, but I suggest using brand new ones.

Well thats given me a laugh on a Friday morning.

The only thing I know about the rythem method is you are most firtile 14 days after the first day of your last period, and that will last for the following 7 days. But for that you have got to be as regular as clockwork.

We did use that method for a few years and it worked. I've no idea what I would have done if it hadn't to be honest.

Now I have an injection every three months which suits be fine.

Other than that, my Mum and Dad used the rythem method (yes I see the joke), Mum went on the pill after my brother was born :rotfl:

    Best of luck

Linda be aware that the 3 monthly injection CAN cause weight gain :) (in my case let's just say that I gained 3 stone in 2 years... in 3 months I put on 8lb before the docs agreed that I was gaining weight faster than is normal - and I even produced a diet plan for them that i was following which they didn't believe - hohum)

Rythm method? Well friends of mine use it and they now have 4 children... go figure... and unlike suerob they were not planned :) all loved, but not planned :)

They didn't beleive you, wonderful

I'm one of the lucky one's re. weight gain, I've been on it for errrmm about 4 years now I'd say and no problems what so ever.

Also have one of the fortunate side effects of nothing what so ever happening on a monthly basis :T Saves a fortune :rotfl:

Just be careful! I was fine on it for about 3 years, then they recommended I had a break of about a year and I went back on it again after that... was only really in the last year the weight started putting on and it escalated everytime I had another injection... Since coming off the injections I have lost about a stone but still some to come off :)

But yes if it wasn't for the weight gain I woudl have stayed on them until I'd be thinking of childen to be honest! For those it works for it's fantastic!

If I’d have known how much weight I’d put on I would never have taken that jab! How many calories are in those injections?!!!!!

I was on it for 1 year started weighing 10st ended up weighing 12st. Stopped taking it, didn’t change diet or exercise more, and stopped putting the weight on. Dieted hard for a couple of months and lost 1st. Starting again next week to lose the other stone.

Agree with the weight gain - I was on the jab for nearly 9 yrs  and came of it in May 2004 - during the 9 yrs never had period but gained a lot of weight - even sticking to diet and excercising didnt shift it. Periods returned last year but you could blink and you would miss it - still find it extremely difficult to lose weight - they do say it can take up to 3 yrs for it to come out of your system

BTW - OH had the snip 2 yrs ago cos of the effect on my health - he has 3 kids and I didnt want to have any

I thought that the contraceptive injection was just a needle full of chocolate. You get fat, making sex much less likely.....
