I'm thrilled to bits that my boyfriend had the snip before he met me.
I was on the pill injection for ten years, and only kept it going for so long because I loved the lack of periods.
I've been off the injection for just over a year now, and though I didn't actively notice weight gain in all that time (just assumed I was getting out of my lean teenage years, into my twenties!), I have lost over a stone in the year since coming off...and I'm sure I'm still losing. Also, my sex drive was ridiculously low all that time, and in the last year, I've noticed a wonderful difference there!!! And I'm not at all bothered about the periods at all - they came back after a few months, but are as quick and easy as they always were before I started the injection - I just like feeling chemical-free!
But best of luck with finding a non-snip method if that's a bit drastic for now!!0 -
Loadsbob I had a really similar experience- injections suited me fine and dandy apart from the complete lack of sex drive which sort of defeated the object of being injected in the first place (so you could swing from the chandeliers without fear of small children resulting)
We're now relying on natural methods- most of which have already been posted. Noticing your bodys changes- brief mid cycle lower tummy gripes, changes in consistency of mucous and so on. This is proving more reliable for me than knowing where I am in my cycle as it's all over the place and even having already had one baby it's not really that much more regular (dr's used to say "don't worry you'll have a more regular cycle after you've started a family". Ha!). Only thing I can guarantee is that 14 days after I reckon I have ovulated, my period starts.
I also charted my temperature for a while but found that as you have to do it every morning before getting up, not even setting one foot out of bed, and something even as minor as getting up in the night to go to the loo can really make a difference (baby#1 meant I was up and down like a yoyo) it was always likely to be inaccurate so I didn't continue for long.
One thing to note Lydia (if you're still reading!!) is that sperm can apparently live inside you for 5 days after The Event.
Therefore if like me you're not sure when you are due to ovulate as your cycle isn't regular, its' probably a bit risky so not to be relied upon if babies would be disastrous. I'm trying to convince hubby that it's time for baby #2 though so knowing if I am ovulating is currently a really good reason to suggest to him that we get a little frisky. Like it ever takes too much persuasion.
Hope you find something that suits you.0 -

Hi, I'm new to MSE and have enjoyed reading this thread. I was wondering if anyone was aware of an ovulation calendar program you can buy online. The link is https://www.ovulation-calendar.com. I've successful used it to get pregnant and now avoid pregnancy following a c. section. From personal experience, the mirena coil is very effective, but it took me 3 years to return to my natural cycle and allow me to get pregnant. If you're planning to have more children, Lydia, I'd definitley avoid that one. I know that the billings method was also mentioned, there's loads of information on https://www.woomb.com and a spreadsheet that you can download to keep a track of your cycle.
Hope this helps.Goal for 09: Get fit and foxy. target weight 11st. 5/80.Get out of dead end job and work for career I always wanted.0
