Reading this has been a real giggle, but, having said that, I am that rarest of the rare, someone who has always used natural contraception from my wedding day (nearly 20 years) and had only the kids that we planned!

I became interested because I didn't get on with the pill either, and then I saw an ad for a teacher teaching the Billings Method, which my mum was already using. So we went to see Sister Nuala, who I naively thought would be a nurse (which she was, admittedly) but was mainly called Sister because she was a nun. Still, you couldn't fault her, nothing made that woman blush!

I just googled Billings Method and apparently you can learn this on the internet now, so you don't have to nip round the nearest convent for nitty-gritty chats with a lady in a habit. It is true you have to "abstain" during your fertile period, but you can do...er...other things, you just have to avoid...er...the most obvious thing! (I usually call a spade a spade but don't want this construed as medical advice.) Anyway, if you want to look for yourself, I thought this link looked quite a good starting point. It sounds like hassle but you come to make the observations pretty much automatically after a while. Best of luck anyway!

We just used coitus interuptous when we could not use the pill due to my health. When we decided to have a baby I got pregnant the first month trying. When son was 1 we decided on medical advice to not have more so hubby paid a visit, best thing we ever did.

Yeah same happened here, i couldnt fault the method, we had been using it for 3 years and was doing very well. The fault lay with me, i should have muttered 'i am not safe' in my comatose state after drinking a couple of glasses of wine at bedtime. Mind you it wiped the smile of his face in the morning, it wiped mine off too - let alone any desires i had of going back to work.

I can only say, it took me years to get over it.

The condom was the best old style method for us as I couldn't tolerate the pill.

Don't modern teenagers get told to have some condoms?

umm, yes...but we also got told to 'just say no, girls, say no' (all-girls school)
we found that funny...we didnt realise that saying 'no' during sex would prevent conception, how wrong we were, lol.
The lady giving the talk never made it clear whether she meant say no to jumping into bed with a b-o-y, or just randomly start saying 'no'...so of course we purposefully mis-understood her.

The year after the infamous 'just say no' talk (we had a yearly sex talk at school, what fun that was) it was condoms all the way, with a hurried bit of pill, injection, implant, coil at the end...I think because they were trying to encourage condoms over others because of STDs etc

...'just say no' still gets a laugh from anyone who was at that talk tho, hehehe
