Co-op Cashminder debit card changes to VISA Debit from June

So, if as and when the Cashminder changes to Visa debit, does that mean we will be able to use the card like other visa debit card holders at such as Railway Stations and on trains/flights etc?
Just I thought the idea of Electron was it always checks to see if there is money in the account before authorising the sale, hence one could not easily overdraw.
Thanks
Tally
No, the new style visa debit cards that replace electron are called full authorisation which means they will not work in planes/trains/tesco pay at pumps!2010 - year of the troll

Yep, you can use the new type of Visa Debit card (supposed full authorisation but not all equipment has been updated to know what this is) at train station well certainly here in central Scotland, both in the station at the counter, in the ticket machines on the concourse, and on the trains and (if you can get passed the barriers, oh and both of these methods ask for authorisation so you need the money in your account) by buying one from the guard through their ticket issuing machines.
So you need to be careful if you buy on the train you are not going overdrawn.0 -
There are two factors for these cards - whether the issuer requires authorisation for a transaction and whether the retailer requires authorisation for a transaction. Even if the issuer requires authorisation, the retailer may choose to allow transactions under a certain limit to go through without authorisation from the issuer.
Most train companies, for example, allow smaller transactions without authorisation. I suspect that the new Co-operative card will work in these kind of places. The Barclays Connect (debit) card requires authorisation where possible but this does not prevent retailers accepting low risk transactions themselves.0 -

London Midland ticket machines do not accept full authorisation Visa Debit cards. You have to go to the counter to use them.0 -
considering this change is suppose to be happening from next month there doesnt seem to have been any mailing regarding this
co-op seemed tohave been one of the better banks for informing their customers regarding any changes.0 -
They sent out the new terms and conditions, they state they may issue a Visa Debit or Electron card on the account, before they came in to effect on 5 December but as you say I have not had any further information about the card type actually changing.
I think the train ticket issue is based on area and the type of machine the guard uses rather than whether or not the card is "full auth" or not. As I said they work fine here in Glasgow/Edinburgh.0 -

At The Co-operative Bank we're always looking at ways we can improve the service we offer you. This is why we are pleased to tell you that we are now starting to roll out the Faster Payments Service so that you can send and receive faster payments.
The Faster Payments Service is a new electronic payment method, which will speed up the way you make and receive electronic payments. In most cases the money will be available within two hours, rather than the three working days it takes currently.
This service is free and you don't need to do anything to benefit from it. All eligible payments will automatically go via the Faster Payments Service, so you will increasingly find that your payments are being sent and received faster.
There are some limitations to the Faster Payments Service, visit http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/faster for more information.

Well its good news people..... :j:j:j
The cooperative bank have today (08 June 2009) started issuing Visa Debit cards to the Cashminder Account.
The advisor I spoke with told me that this was the first call of the day he had received about this and as yet he was a little unsure about how to apply the change of card, he has spoke to his manager and advised me to call him back this afternoon to double check that the request has went through, he also left details of our conversation in the account notes.
So, i will update the thread later on this afternoon with how i got on.0
