Co-op Cashminder debit card changes to VISA Debit from June

Like many others I opened this account because of the new debit card, only to find out that it's just an Electron card in new clothing. Very dissapointing.
However, I've just checked my credit report to see that the Cashminder account is recorded monthly on my credit file. To put this into context, I also have two other basic bank accounts. One is a Nationwide Basic Flex account and the other is a Halifax Easycash account. Neither of which have ever been recorded on my credit file, and I've held these accounts for many years now.
The 6th year anniversary of my bankruptcy will occur next month, so I'm pleased to see that when this default falls off my credit file, I will have a positive credit marking from my Cashminder account. :T
Ps. to anyone in a similar position, make sure the default dates on your credit file match your bankruptcy date. My default dates didn't, and it took me 3 months to sort them out. Well worth checking, as you will want your credit file completely cleared of any default listings on the 6th anniversary of your bankruptcy.0 -
Has anyone heard from the Co-Op if they are actually going to sort this card problem out?
It's been talked about that the BIN number can be reallocated to "Visa Debit", But are they actually gonna do that?!
Cheers!

I spoke to them last week about a different matter and asked about this. I was told it is a visa debit electron card and is no different to the electron card and they have no plans to change this,
It is not a full visa debit card and wasn't intended to be so.
I asked the adviser what the point in having it was really as it was no different, she just said all cards will be up dated to this new one, but at least she did say it was still electron which from reading most of the posts on here it hasn't been clarified as such to others that have queried it.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

In which case they shouldn't have sent the leafet out with it saying it's a full visa debit. Do you think it's worth us all contacting trading standards, and this really is quite a serious mis-representation?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

I have sent Visa an email about it, waiting for a reply.
I mentioned the leaflet and if they were going to transfer the numbering to Visa Debit.
Someone else posted an email from them so I used that address, in Visa's reply to them they stated "The migration of the Co-op Cashminder Account to Visa Debit is good news for cardholders. A Visa Debit card provides wider acceptance, both online and abroad and benefits from strong consumer protection."
But that is not what people have got.
Will let you know if they do reply.0 -
Well since this has an electron BIN etc., I might try it on Ryanair and get myself some 1p flights without the card fee.
Has anyone tried this?0 -

I take it the leaflet comes with the new card?
When I was on the phone to them re my previous post she ordered me one and said it would take approx 5 days but I really don't see the point if it cannot be used on websites such as Tesco. I suppose the only benefit really is to anyone looking over your shoulder can see its supposed to be a 'normal' debit card:rolleyes:
I am very fortunate that LloydsTSB didn't close my account down with them as I have had to order from Tesco on line these past few weeks so I have had to transfer the money into this account from CO-OP so I can shop and it it wasn't for faster payments this could have ended up causing me problems due to my wonderful (not) memory.
I am considering moving back to Lloyds and closing my CO-OP account down.
Were any leaflets sent out before the change to inform customers of this?Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

Yes, the leaflet comes with the new card.
I'm sure I have it somewhere at home, but it goes along the lines of 'Here's your new Visa Debit card, this will be accepted wherever you see the Visa sign'Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I have apply for a full current account with Co-op and was told that it comes with a proper visa debit .
Can anyone who has a full current account with Co-op confirm that the visa debit card does not start with the same first four numbers as the cashminder account.
