Indeed, it must be annoying when they send out a leaflet with the card to say it can now be used everywhere Visa can.
I am in the lucky position I also have a 3-in-1 card, can you apply for their pathfinder worldwide account? It is one of their international savings accounts and comes with a 2-in-1 Visa card but has done for about 10 years so I doubt it start 4508 or we would have heard something about it by now. You need to pay in at least £100 per month.0 -
I pay in over 1800 a month but as an undischarged br I think I'd be shown the door lol - my main gripe is the fact that we were sent the leaflet saying that the new card can be used everywhere but it can't and as far as I'm concerned since M&S and tesco's are such huge retailers we should be entitled to expect to be able to use it on-line with them!0

i called the cop- op the other day in relation to this whether its going to still be a visa electron or whether it is going to be a visa debit card
the woman that i spoke to stated that visa are getting rid of the electron brand name - not the co-op and therefore they are issuing the new visa debit cards
they stated that the card numbers on the new cards will remain the same.0 -
Yes but it's not read on the retailers machine as a VisaDebit in their view it's an electron thus someone is playing silly wotsits - When is a sheep not a sheep when it goes Woof Woof and runs after a stick! Sorry my attempt at humour,I'm totally P***** *** with the whole business. I just wish someone in authority would come out and tell us in black and white what is happening and where we stand!0

I rang the co-op myself this afternoon.
And the answer to it all is? - Sorry we don't know!
The customer advisor said they know what people are talking about when we ring up asking about this, but they haven't been given any instructions by their bosses on what is going to happen, or when a 'fix' will be available or how it is going to be resolved. The customer adviser said they are as frustrated as we customers because of the lack of info given to them and they are taking the flack from customers because of it.
So, I guess it is just wait and see what happens.

p.s Does anyone have an e-mail addy or name and address for the co-op banks 'head honcho?' - just so I can have the pleasure of contacting him/her?
Thanks0 -

I've had my son trawling the internet for the top dog at the Co-op Bank and apart from Mervyn Pedelty who was the boss till 2004 when he retired the person in charge appears to be very shy! He even tried to get me an e-mail address for the H/O and failed on that score as well. When he gets out of bed (he's a student lol) he's going to give it another go!0

Hi,
For clarity.
This is a Visa Europe driven initiative and not the banks, be that the Co-operative Bank or any other.
Visa are "re-branding" the electron card as 'Visa Debit' , the only difference is that there are now 2 versions of a Visa Debit card. One with a Cheque Guarantee symbol on the back and one without (the old electron).
Visa are doing this to attempt to get rid of the stigma attached to the Electron brand - nobody likes it. Although in reality the only difference is that it isn't embossed and so can't be used in the old carbon swipe machines (who uses those now anyway?).
Anybody who has started to issue the new style debit cards (all/most UK banks who have existing electron customers whose cards are coming up to expiry), will have registered their card range with Visa as a 'Debit' not electron.
However, some companies may still 'see' these as Electron Cards until they update their software / get an updated version of the Visa Directory. Some payment software uses local copies, or a stored copy of the card number ranges - so it will always be behind.
In the meantime, treat it as an Electron card (even though it says debit). Or if a company won't accept it, speak to their management and get them to update their Point of Sale software / speak to their merchant services provider.
Eventually the initial issues will be ironed out and you'll be able to use your shiny new debit card in a lot more retailers than you could do your electron.
But Electron is definately no more........0 -
So basically we have to push the likes of Tesco and M&S to push their "merchant service provider" to update their software? It's not a problem with the Co-op or Visa Debit as such! Is that the bones of it ?0
