My new co-op "debit" card came today, as they cancelled the wrong card when I spoke with them recently. It starts 4508 (as expected)0

think its 00010 for Electron - thats what both my 'so-called' Visa Debit and real Co-Op and Halifax Electrons show.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

Application IDs:
Visa Debit/Credit: 31010
Visa Electron: 32010
Mastercard: 41010
Maestro: 50001/43060
Solo: 50002
Anything with 32010 will most likely be an electron, and will probably be processed as such when put through a till. If you are getting a Visa debit branded card and are getting this app ID when using it, then it is more than likely that they've cocked up.
That said, all debit cards will have multiple applications on them, but to have Debit and Electron on the same is unheard of.0 -

That's interestering, on a receipt from a co op food shop my Maestro Card is coming up with 41010 = Mastercard. A receipt from Morrison's is 50001 as it is a Maestro Card. Never studied shop receipts before.0 -

Yep, the card is badged Visa Debit but has both a Visa Electron BIN and now it appears AID too.0 -
Ok, just went and found a couple of receipts to check this out.
Matalan receipt - A&L all auth visa debit. App ID - 32010. Card name: Visa Debit.
Primark receipt - Co-Op Electron. App ID - 32010. Card name - Electron.
This is what I've been arguing with A&L about for the last year or so - these are basically Electron cards, not true Visa Debits!!!!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
Just abit of an update for you guys and gals.
My brother got a call from a manager at the co op today.
They aware of the problem and they have contacted Visa International.
Visa International have said they will update there databases to ensure that the 4508 BIN is recorded as visa debit and not an visa electron over the next week or so.
Which will in turn resolve the problem so they say....
Guess youll have to wait and seeIm an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
That's cool, cheers for the update stclair. CoOp did tell me that everybody on Cashminder accounts would have a new "Debit" branded card by mid-July.
As my "Debit" card is still showing as an "Electron" in shops (as per the 4508 BIN), I'm wondering if we'll need another card issued? Is it purely the BIN that determines card type or does the chip also need updating?
Option 1 = Chip tells retailer BIN = 4508... Visa tells retailer 4508 = Debit
Option 2 = Chip tells retailer BIN = 4508 & Card = Debit...
Hope that makes sense to you guys.0 -
Im confused! I've used my Electron card four times now, and out of four transactions, only one said 'Electron' the rest simply said 'Visa'
Thought it might be the reader or something, but in two separate shops (Boots and Co-Op, both said Visa) Is the updating of the systems wiping the Electron out or something?? Its not a problem, just curious.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
