Does alcohol affect my work? No. Does it affect my home life? No. Do I feel I drink too much? Yes. Can I go without alcohol? I dont know, I've never tried.

Why do I drink? Its my release. It allows me to sit and chill.

Obviously I (feel/know) i have some sort of drink problem or I wouldnt be posting. But I'd decided tonight that I was going to stop and just happened to see this thread.
What do I drink. A bottle of wine and a couple of beers probably on average 4/5 nights a week.
So we'll give it a go. The next 6 days wont count though (i'll be on nights) but we'll see what happens from there.

Hello, I am 22 and not alcohol dependant at all but i do have to quit drinking full stop.

I am normally a happy and positive person who is quite confident and fun loving. When i drink i lose all sense of control judgement and i swear that i am 100% a different person.

I am currently suffering with my usual severe anxiety after a recent leaving party at our local pub. It's day 4 now and I still have the beer guilt but so much worse than anyone i know. My heart races and i wish i could die so that all the dark evil thoughts would go away. I know in a few days this feeling will be erased from my mind until sometime next month when i get drunk again. This time i know i can't let this happen to me again. I don't want to feel this depressed it scares me and i never want to do the things i think i did on wednesday again.

I can't just have two drinks because when i do i lose any kind of reasoning and it is a great idea to get drunk. Terrible i know for such a young girl. I come from a family of apparant alcoholics.

My question is how do i get around the oh your not drinking your boring go on have a drink that has occured in the past when i have quit. I actually enjoy not drinking and waking up normal happy and fresh but other people can't stand it when i don't drink. Any tips?

Thank you so much and good luck to all!

Coincidentally, I come from a long line of alcoholics (5 uncles 2 aunts). Do you smoke? If you didnt smoke and someone offered you a cigarette would you think anything of saying no?
I'd go out as usual but tell my friends/associates I didnt have much money so would buy my own. I'd then buy cola/whatever soft drink i wanted and pretend it was alcohol.
Either that or just tell people you dont need alcohol to enjoy yourself.
    Good luck to you too.

    WELCOME to Scotsman4th and Kellylea

Sleepyjo - thinking of you this morning. Please don't feel bad - you have a lot to cope with right now, but as the others have said today is a brand new day. Look forwards, not backwards;)

HS - excuse my bad manners and please accept my apology for not thanking you for the scoring last month:o

BB - thank you for scoring May. We'll all do our best - dib, dib, dib, dob, dob, dob and all that:D

Woke up feeling a tad rough this morning. I had a long day yesterday looking at houses - some awful, some OK and one that I can 'see' us living in. The garden had a huge fishpond full of Koi - the spaniels are rubbing their paws with glee, not because of the fish but because they think I am considering buying a house with their own private pool:rotfl:I had dinner all planned, but then DD called to say she was sleeping at her dad's so I popped into Mr. T's and bought a bung-in-the-oven meal with a bottle of wine:eek: Not only have I blown the grocery budget and lost an AF day, but I will never live down the shame of buying a ready-meal:rotfl:

Have a lovely day, whatever you are doing.

Thanks toeveryone -i know that i am lucky that dear husband has a job and is busy - but he is on call 24-7 if we decide to go out - without the phones, then it costs us to have the phones diverted to other people, hence why - we do not go out so much, but it gets me down, when what seems to be every weekend or bank holiday, everyone seems to be going out, enjoying them selves, without a care in the world, and where i am I? at home.
i have tried to say to dh stay in tonight, i have something planned, but if the phone goes, he has to go out on the job, so stuff the suprise - as work comes first!
the only do's that we seem to go to - are work related do's - but then all that seems to happen, is dh and his mates stand about talking about work, while i stand there patiently sipping my wine, etc.,
I have been having one glass of cider followed by one glass of water, so hopefully, i will not be opening the wine tonight, it is a good job i have you guy's to talk to, otherwise i would be absolutely drunk tonight, years ago, i would have rung my mum and talked things through with her, but even though she is still alive and 'well' in herself, because of the alzeimers - she doesn't even know who i am any more, let alone listen to me waffle on, about how i am feeling!!

do you know, it is five years tomorrow, since i found my best friend dead in her flat ( she died of a brain tumer) and the next day, my father in law died of a heart attack in front of me.
i am begining to wonder wether all of this is related, because i lost the two people i talked to most in life to - all in the same week!
anyhow, many thanks to all of you who have replied to my post earlier, i have read t hem and taken them on board.
i will try better tomorrow, best wishes jo-jo

    Oh jo-jo

No wonder you were drinking yesterday - everyone should understand under the circumstances.

Have you had any counselling re your bf and fil . Its way too big to tackle on your own. Try and take it easy today . Try talking to your OH about how low and lonely you are feeling . OH is probably feeling a bit low at this time also at the anniversary of his fathers death so be kind to each other.

Take good care of yourself .
