The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 3

Im really glad I joined this challenge, Ive already started to notice a big difference!
I dont drink lots and lots ALL the time, but I was starting to notice that part of my routine when i got home from work was to pour myself a glass of wine while I was cooking dinner and doing washing and dishes etc. I would top that glass up when I actually sat down to eat my meal and then Id top that glass up, after Id finished the kitchen etc and sat in front of the tele when the little one was in bed. Or often, it would just be one glass with my dinner or after the little one was in bed when I was sat down for 5 minutes peace!
But it got to the point I couldnt honestly tell you the last day, I DIDNT have any alcohol - I was drinking in some form or another every single day
But I have noticed Ive been drinking much more water and fruit juice etc and I dont have a fuzzy head every morning!! Plus Im saving LOTS on my grocery bill as Im not buying nearly as much Alcohol!! Yay!!Sometimes lurking, sometimes posting, but always flying

115K, cutting back is good, that's why most of us are on here. Being smiley dependent I must have AF days. If only I could manage just a couple of glasses (like you 69 chick -well done).
Thanks. :A I am going to be AF today so that will be 4 days for me. I do feel better for drinking less when I have been drinking. I haven't had a hangover in a while.:T
Hope everyone is alright.HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

Welcome Silentsmile I don't want to put you off but I wouldn't aim too high with your first target. Personally I would rather have an achievable target and, reach (and if possible exceed) it than be disheartened. I suppose it depends just how much you need to cut down.
5AF please Jo.
It's a tough one. I don't think there has been a month this year where the overall target has been reached. Most people don't make their targets, which is a cause for concern. It would be great if people were exceeding the targets.
Just shows you how tough it is to stop/cut down on drinking.
If you cannot live without alcohol, then cut down.
If you can do a month or 2 without booze then go for it. It isn't forever, just a month or 20 -

I'm afraid I disagree with you this time, I think that out of all these people we have managed 450 AFD days in June.. I think that's pretty impressive even if we don't all hit our targets at least we are doing something to improve our health/finances etc. etc.. :T

Very true - it is great what people are doing. More AF days than there would have been which is fantastic.
My worry is that perhaps people are not taking their targets seriously, and don't mind if they don't meet them.
That's the power of alcohol.
I know for me and some people with alcohol issues I know, we used to change our goals to suit our behaviours. Normal people change their behaviours to reach their goals.
The other powerful thing about alcohol is that if target not reached, so people will just think 'fook it, not gonna make it this month so may as well drink'
instead of cracking on. Not everyone, just some people0 -
I must admit, I can see where GC is coming from on this. I was at the top of that example list and I only managed 14 days
. This means I was incapable (at that time) of going one month without a drink. Quite scary!
Targets DO have to be realistic but I'd rather have a higher target and have something to strive for than have a very low target and give up once I'm past it. All by the by with me anyway as am going for the giving up rather than the cutting down . So I'll just stop my ramblings and wander off.......:rotfl:

I think everyone has to do what works the best for them really & try different ways to see which is best. For me it is setting a low and realistic target [10 days] because that is achievable and in my head my aim is to surpass my target. So far I have aways done that - I haven't got to 10 and then thought 'great now I can drink for the rest of the month' :rotfl: - last month my total was 18 even though my target was 10. For me personally, if I had set it at 18 and I didn't achieve that I would be really de motivated and give up feeling disappointed with myself
so it is best to find what works the best for you - for me it is setting a lower target and trying to go over it and feeling chuffed with myself, for others it is setting themselves a harder goal. It is a bit of trial and error really - so if one way doesn't work for you - try the other way and see if that works
Anyway, please put me down for 7 AFDs Jo for today. Many thanks
Have a good evening all xx0 -
