I applied online for the HSBC Gap Year Account, thinking they would just upgrade my current HSBC Bank Account with them as I selected YES when they asked if you are an existing customer.

However today I've received a letter saying go into branch and show them ID, university letter and it's also given me the account number and sort code of a new account (the gap year one).

I'm not sure if I want a second current account with HSBC. Should I just go and open it now they've already credit checked me etc...?

Go for it mate - helps you at the end of the day as you'll get extra on your behavioural score (long term) by running more than one account..... ;)

I would leave it open mate, I read somewhere that you automatically qualify for a credit card of £250 when opening the gap account

I never had any increase @ statement 4. Maybe they increased mine as I have had more activity on the account recently

Well went into HSBC. After waiting 20 minutes to see someone, they photocopied the documents and said they'd sort it. Just waiting for the account to show on internet banking.
