Received my letter from cap 1 today, increased my apr from 30.1% to 39.9% , am tempted now to close the account and wait a bit and then apply for their progress mastercard ;) However am wondering how much higher is the criteria for that compared to their classic visa card
I think the progress card will score quite harshly mate

Well done, having another settled account will improve your credit score.

You saying that has just reminded me of a question i've been meaning too ask for a while. When the Cap One account is finally marked as settled i will have 5 settled accounts on my credit report,my question is...Do settled accounts stay on your credit report forever or do they drop off after a set amount of time?

They stay on for 6 years from being marked settled

Thanks to Snoppydog for leading me to this thread. ;)

In April 08 i received a CCJ from the HMRC. It has been fully satisfied and i have the certificate from the court stating that so hopefully that will have some positive impact on my credit file.

My question is am i doomed credit wise until 2014 when the CCJ falls off my credit file or can I actually do anything to rebuild my credit file that will make a difference bearing in my i have the killer CCJ?

I have a horrible feeling that no amount of credit building trumps a CCJ on your file.

What impact, positive or negative, will the following have?

    1. I have a current account - had it for years - o/d up to £5k which i dip into all the time as self employed. But good history with the bank generally (a couple of blips about 4 years ago.

    2. I have a mobile phone that i got on contract before my CCJ last year. Had it since Jan 08 and the account has been kept 100% up to date.

    3. Just finished paying off a credit card with MBNA. Balance 4 years ago was about £12k - and i was in arrears. I set up a DD for the minimum plus a lot to get it cleared. Also got £2k ppi back so managed to clear it all off last month. They have declined to activate my account again so i have asked them to close it fully now. They did a search before declining me.

    4. Due to us moving house a few times have kept my current account and MBNA registered at my business address. My phone is registered at my home address. My CCJ is registered at my home address. Should i move my Current account address to my home address to boost my chances?

    5. I am on the electoral roll.

    6. Self employed with monthly income averaging out at about £5k.

Any comments would be useful to help me get more on the prime side of the sub prime market.

    Thanks

    Hi there,

Are you and your partner financially linked? I ask because a default is very bad news.....

If you want to go mainstream try https://letmechoose.barclaycard.co.uk/ this will let you know the likelyhood of you being accepted for a barclaycard. It will carry out a soft search on your callcredit file and base its decsion on that.

Good luck and let us know how you get on

Right went to this website (which i think is a great idea!) put details in and it said it couldnt find me and to check details are on electoral role.

I know they are as the details came up on the credit file i got a couple of days ago.

The property is a new build property though so could it be something to do with the address??? it seems to be coming up on most systems now and is listed on the post office system.

    Any thoughts welcome

Yeah I had some issues like that too. A few of my accounts weren't on my statutory credit report with Experian. And oddly enough, they decided to add the word "EAGLE MILL" onto my address, which I cannot explain where that came from.

I got a letter from Halifax this morning saying they are increasing my credit card interest rates from 19.9% to 22.9%. Not a significant increase but it's an increase all the same.

    Hiya

Might sound like a funny question but paying off my loan at the end of the month to settle it early. Will this have a positive impact on my credit score? It will be my first settled account so interested to know what it will do for me.

    Cheers :)
