anyone else had a problem with their new i10? Ours broke down last Sunday - put it into reverse gear and couldn't get it out of reverse and ended up calling RAC out. We eventually got round to dropping it at the dealers today and were told they were about to contact us anyway as there is a manufacturer's recall on some i10s because of gear box problems. Point if this post is just to let all the new i10 owners know that they may have gear box issues. So far so good with our dealer and hopefully they will put this right quicky, however, I will be asking for a courtesy car if they can't put it right fairly quickly. Other than this - hopefully - minor setback we are pleased with the car.

I suggest you have a look at car brokers. They (or some) are offering scrappage allowance on top of their normal discounts. You may not get the full £2000 scrappage allowance figure by doing it this way but it will still be vastly under mrrp - £2000. For instance I recently got a £3700 discount on my car, this was made up of about £2000 discount for going through the broker and an additional £1750 for scrappage allowance. On the invoice it says £2000 scrappage and a lesser additional discount on mrrp but as far as I am concerned I got 30% off the car without the hassle of haggling and disposing of my old car.

Use you local dealer to test drive the car you want and when you are really sure that it is the car you want then get a rough quote from a car broker site and see how close the dealer can get. If you go through a broker you may find it is a bit of a journey to pick you new car up, in my case 200 miles, but it was worth it.

I'll second this, I test drove the Aygo and Yaris at a local dealer around 2 miles away from me. Got a price from them for the Yaris which was £9015 with scrappage.

I phoned a couple of brokers named on here (thanks guys) and to cut a long story short, I've saved £800 on the Yaris Tr2 compared to the local dealer who didn't even try to match the price.

Ok I've got to drive 300 miles to pick the car up but even taking this into consideration, I'm still several quids in and it will be a nice drive back to break the car in.

Also, even though I've ordered it now, I'm getting a September the 1st registration even though the supplier can locate a car for me by the end of July and I won't be effected by the new price increases due on Toyota's, so I'm a happy bunny in many ways.

Just need to decide how to finance the blooming thing as there are so many options and I've never done this before.

    Any suggestions ?:o

PS Thanks to each and eveyone of you (especially the dealers) for your help, I probably wouldn't be taking this leap like many others without the scrappage scheme.

Are you sure you are going to have to take it to the dealer? Ours is delivering to the door and taking the others away. Oh maybe yours isnt scrappage deal like ours.

In my case although the broker said that delivery was included ,the dealer said that as part of the scheme I had to pick the new car up as I would have to get my old car to them. I didn't argue the point as I was getting a good deal anyway and picked up a car with 5 miles on the clock. I suppose this way it saved them a bit of money. If the new car delivery was to be driven instead of transported then I assume that the scrapped car would be driven back so how drivable, although road legal, are some of the cars that are being scrapped?

I think the idea is to pick it up on a transporter?
