    Sounds exciting!

What happened to those huge swathes of unsold cars in fields everywhere?

I'm a little worried about this now! I've paid £495 deposit also, but I've noticed on my paper work where is says final price to pay it's blank!
I suppose I'll find out next week when I collect my car!
Our balance definitely states £5k on paperwork.
  • He was reluctant to give me a price but thought it wouldn't depreciate by much. That's the closest I could get to an answer.

Just had quotes for servicing my i20 from 2 dealers, more than I thought,

    Services 1&3
    Dealer 1 £160
    Dealer 2 £175

    Services 2&4
    Dealer 1 £335
    Dealer 2 £357!

I had read on a forum somewhere that the major service was £230, so I was suprised.

Anyway, dealer 2 is offering a 3 year package for £460, payable monthly (£14.?? for 32 months). Seems a bit too good to be true. Has anyone else bought a package or been offered? I'm assuming 3 years means Services 1,2 & 3 is this correct? Going to go to the dealers & sign up tomorrow if this is correct.
If not it might be a VAT registered garage doing the work, at least after the first service anyway.
    Next year we'll be millionaires!

3 years servicing is normally 10,000 miles or 1 year so a 3 year package should be 3 services, that seems a very high price for 3 services, maybe they have inflated the price knowing they will drop it to secure a deal ??,

If you are planning to keep the car for a long time it might be worth checking if the engine has a timing belt or chain as a belt will need changing every 5 years at around £500 a time, but if it 's a chain it should last for the life of the car,

I have been to a few main dealers and the first 3 services prices do vary between each car in the range,

VW polo = £335.76 if I had done a deal they would of dropped to £135.76,
VW fox = £250.00 same as above,
    Citreon C1 = £350.00
    Toyota Aygo = RRP £462.85, I got it for £347.14 saving £115.71,

Try to crush them on price of the servicing as they are very unlikely to reduce the car at all now as most main dealers have reached their sales targets for the year in these last couple of months, all I managed to get was £25.00 of fuel, proper Aygo mats, a glovebox lid ??? as this is £80 from Toyota,

I would check to see if the service deal is tied to the dealer you take it out with, as most are.

Fortunately it's a timing chain, wish my picasso was though, £330 bill in the next year
I think the servicing is restricted to the dealer, but as I would pay in installments, & I'm not planning to move too far away I think that would OK (if the dealer went bust the most I'd lose is about £150)
I think it's likely the single servicing costs are inflated to sell the packages, although dealer2 (£357 for a major) doesn't sell plans, can't see how they'd get any servicing business.
I know £460 is still steep, I might beable to save around £150 getting an independent to do it, but for 100% warranty peace of mind I'll go for it. Service 4 I'll go for an independent, only risking the last year of the warranty if something did go wrong, although it shouldn't with a decent independent.
Year 5 onwards, I'll probably get the spanners out again!
    Next year we'll be millionaires!

please let us know how your getting on with your new car. wish i was picking mine up, looks like it will be end of aug maybe september and i ordered 23rd may!

It's great, OH using it for work so has driven it more. I was slightly worried I'd noticed a drop in performance (old car was a M reg 1.8 306 Pug petrol, new car Hyundai i30 1.4 petrol), but it was easily as good as my old car when I took it on the M25 and through the Kent countryside on sunday. (Guess this must be down to improved efficiency?) Plus I love the air-con, which is a first for me in a car!

Some people earlier in this thread seemed to hope that servicing on a new car would cost much less than servicing the 10 year old banger it replaced. Not so at all according to the above! Seems some old bangers can be repaired and serviced for the cost of just servicing the new car. Rather supports my doubts about using the scrappage scheme, especially as insurance goes up too on an new car.
