Car Scrappage Scheme

I was lucky Toyota have price fixed my Aygo so if the price goes up in the 3 months it will take for delivery I pay the same price I shook the dealers hand at, if may be worth asking before buying a new car because they could increase the price every month until delivery,
I got a Toyota Aygo for £5790 after scrappage, the sales mananger wouldn't drop the price at all he showed me the profit margin on each Aygo is £456.66, but they have to pay £300 towards their part of the scrappage allowance so they only make £156.66 on each car, The dealership has also sold it's 12 month quota of 114 Aygo's in 6 months, so now every dealership are getting another 40 to last the rest of the year, so you are very unlikely to get anything of the car, there is a chance you could get some freebies thrown in though,
I got 3 years main dealer servicing for £347.14 instead of £462.85, saving £115.71,
3 year retail price protect for £199.00 instead of £399.99, saving £200.99,
Free Aygo mats thrown in RRP £80,
£25 of fuel free,
A glovebox lid RRP £66.99, Aygo's don't come with glovebox lids for some reason,
I went to Citroen and they said that they couldn't price fix, they said the C1 was going up by £120 so if you bought last month the dealer would phone you to ask for more money.0 -

i20 1.2 5 door comfort (standard red) has gone up from £6745 to £7150 - funny because when I ordered the ESP (which is supposed to be why the price has increased) was only a £250 extra!
As for cleaning - use https://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk - is good for products, advice and price.0 -
3 year retail price protectsabretoothtigger wrote: »whats that do
The retail price protect is if your new car is a insurance write off in the first 3 years, the insurance will only pay the market value for your car, which will be a lot less than what you paid for the car, the depreciation of your new car in the first 3 years is around 50% my Aygo will be 43% this doesn't matter to me though as I will be keeping the new car for at least 10-12 years, you should of seen the dealers face when I said that, no repeat business changing cars every 2-3 years from me,
So Toyota in my case will refund the difference between the insurance and the original list price I purchased the car for hopefully without scrappage removed, it is unlikely I will ever need it but for £199 it gives me some peace of mind, originally they tried to charge me the RRP of £399 but that was to expensive, and he dropped the price without me even mentioning it.0 -
Yes VW tried that one on too. There is a company with a member on here who charges about £150 for 3 years cover - gap insurance.0

I was so annoyed at Mazda though. To me they are the worst of all as they had the cheek to comment on competitors who were charging higher finance rates to scrappage customers....and a few weeks later they go and do it themselves. Ridiculous.
They shouldn't do that. You would think with the number of scrappage options available on a wide range of models, they would keep being competative. I ordered my Mazda 2 TS2 two weeks ago, and if it wasn't for the 0% finance deal, I wouldn't have gone for it.0 -
I pick up my Fiat 500 in the morning. Can't wait !0

This gets worse for me, wondered if anyone could help with some advice. I've now been told, that despite a dealership offering a discount on a new car and advertising it that I can't actually get that deal because I am a scrappage customer. Not talking about finance now but even the actual price of the car!
Been told it doesn't matter what price they advertise the car for, for instance a four hundred pound discount on rrp, it doesn't apply to scrappage customers. You must pay the full list price or you are not eligible for scrappage?! Apparently the government dictates you have to pay the full list price?? Is this really true?
So, again, non-scrappage customers can go to a dealer offering a reduced price on a brand new car, but scrappage customers have to pay the full recommended retail price instead?0 -

I suggest you have a look at car brokers. They (or some) are offering scrappage allowance on top of their normal discounts. You may not get the full £2000 scrappage allowance figure by doing it this way but it will still be vastly under mrrp - £2000. For instance I recently got a £3700 discount on my car, this was made up of about £2000 discount for going through the broker and an additional £1750 for scrappage allowance. On the invoice it says £2000 scrappage and a lesser additional discount on mrrp but as far as I am concerned I got 30% off the car without the hassle of haggling and disposing of my old car.
Use you local dealer to test drive the car you want and when you are really sure that it is the car you want then get a rough quote from a car broker site and see how close the dealer can get. If you go through a broker you may find it is a bit of a journey to pick you new car up, in my case 200 miles, but it was worth it.0 -
Thanks for that. Sounds like a great discount you got. I had looked at a couple of brokers, just in passing really and didn't put much effort in, so I will revisit that. The ones I looked at didn't offer scrappage as well which is why I disregarded it, so I will see what other ones I can find. No problem travelling to pick up a car, especially if there is a good deal on it.
Looks like, as I suspected then, there is absolutely no rule saying in order to get scrappage you have to pay full rrp.0 -
