Car Scrappage Scheme

I had sold myself on the idea of getting a new Hyundai I10 classic using the scrappage scheme, on the road price roughly £5000.
My brothers just told me not to, as he's found a almost year old second hand Hyundai COMFORT for £4500. I could still sell my car for £500 so that would mean I would get a nearly new car for £4000, (and a slightly better model at that).
What's the best option, new Hyundai I10 classic for £5000 or nearly new Hyundai comfort for effectively £4000?
The 4k used car is a very good deal as you will see if you check on Parker's website. Check whether it is the 1.1 or the 1.2 engine (if it matters to you )So it comes down to do you WANT a new car or are you happy with a used one?0 -

Bellrooster,
A 1 yr-old Comfort for £4500 is a bargain . If it's a year old, it will have the 1.1 engine, which is not nearly as good as the 1.2: it's still perfectly adequate for most use, but worth less at resale time I suspect.
However, I haven't seen any secondhand i10s for anything near to £4500 (especially the Comfort model); if I had, I would probably have bought one instead of spending nearly £6k on a scrappage one:D!
Are you sure that, as Leslie Crowther might have put it, that "the price is right?" All the sites I have looked at suggest that a car like that, even in the worst condition, from a private seller (i.e. not a dealer) should be over £5 grand......:question:
Perhaps better not to let us know where it is; you might be knocked over in the rush.....;)

Thanks folks!
My brother said that the price seemed too good to be true! we're going to see the car tomorrow (it's a private seller) and I'll report back.0 -
Had booked a test drive for the Aygo today. But when we got there was told that the last Aygo promised for the UK had been sold today and there will be no more available. The dealer then tried to sell me a Yaris instead claiming that as they are offering an additional £500 off the Yaris, there is very little difference? Anybody else heard this about the Aygo??? Not sure if the dealer was just trying to get me to buy a more expensive car?0

Hello, after much, MUCH consideration... I think I'm going to go for the scrappage scheme. I currently have a 12 year old Fiesta with a broken clutch - not worth the repair costs, not worth anything to sell on, worth 2k with scrappage!
I'm thinking of going for the new Fiesta, which would work out around 8k with scrappage. A lot of money, but I do 70 miles a day, mostly motorway, and think the warranty, the fact it's brand new and the reliability of the model will be worth the extra cost.
Does anyone know if the issues with Ford are resolved now, and if the Fiestas are in short supply like so many other models in the scrappage scheme?0 -
If the issues aren't resolved with Ford they will be so go ahead. They won't be turning their back on it. Fiesta is still 8k with scrappage so I suspect you'll find one.0

Has anyone had any luck with VW? My local dealer has a special offer on a passat estate that is new but they will not confirm what the scrappage allowance will be on it.0

Two reasons.
One is that it's meant to take old cars OFF the road. By definition they should be ON the road to start with.
Second reason is that they are trying to stop people buying old bangers off ebay to get a £2K discount. Hence you genuinely have to have owned the car for 12 months. Some of it's put in place to stop people taking advantage.
What's the issue with buying tax then getting a refund?
Surely wouldn't cost that much for one month?
A car that os SORN'ed is legal, it will still be stopped from going back on the road if it is scrapped
What is the point in having to waste money/time/effort in getting an MOT then taxing a car just to scrap it....sheer and utter lunacy.0
