Car Scrappage Scheme

Hmm I thought I had is sussed, but now I'm not so sure!
I had sold myself on the idea of getting a new Hyundai I10 classic using the scrappage scheme, on the road price roughly £5000.
My brothers just told me not to, as he's found a almost year old second hand Hyundai COMFORT for £4500. I could still sell my car for £500 so that would mean I would get a nearly new car for £4000, (and a slightly better model at that).
What's the best option, new Hyundai I10 classic for £5000 or nearly new Hyundai comfort for effectively £4000?0 -
Is there any where on the net where someone has compiled the best deals? withp.s. I've been known as Glee long before that awful show appeared.....

I was all set to buy a new car under this scheme. The MOT has expired on my 11 year old car.
I'm not going to pay £350 to get it through the MOT to qualify and then see the car scrapped. What a waste of money!

I agree 100%, to insist that a car that is destined to be scrapped must have a valid MOT is sheer lunacy.0 -

4. The old vehicle must have a current tax disc. The purchaser must provide an MOT certificate for it which is current at or which expired no more than 14 days before the date of ordering, or a current Hackney Carriage Licence. The purchaser must also provide the V5C Registration Certificate for it, and may be required to provide proof of identity and address. The old vehicle must not be an insurance write-off or subject to any financing arrangement.
As I read it this gives you 14 days from the expiry of your MOT to order a new car.0 -

Still lunacy ..Why should it need a Tax Disc to be scrapped?? beats me.. It looks like they put so many obstacles in the way in the hope that nobody would use the scheme.

Just noticed that The Picanto is now £4495. Is that right. It was £4195 when I ordered a week ago.0

Two reasons.
One is that it's meant to take old cars OFF the road. By definition they should be ON the road to start with.
Second reason is that they are trying to stop people buying old bangers off ebay to get a £2K discount. Hence you genuinely have to have owned the car for 12 months. Some of it's put in place to stop people taking advantage.
What's the issue with buying tax then getting a refund?
Surely wouldn't cost that much for one month?0
