  • Ahhh... what a plonker ! So sorry guys our Clio is actually 9 years old, sorry about that and thanks for assuming I'd made a mistake ! Shame we wont be the one owner on the log book, however it sounds like the idea is feasible

    Many thanks all

    Grrr a week to go before I get my new car and someone drove into the back of me today!

    My rear bumper is burst but the car is still drivable, does anyone think it will still matter for my trade in under the scrappage scheme?

    Should be fine, im stripping mine before it gets handed in

    If I wasn't driving so far I'd be doing the same. I'd love to at the very least take my radio cassette out and even freecycle it, but want music for the drive down. Mmmm I'm wondering if the dealer will take it out for me.

    Nothing else I can take that I can think of or want.

    As for the bump today, well I've had a feeling for a few weeks something was going to happen to the rear of my car, here's hoping it's over and done with and I make it down to pick up my car safely on the 1st.

  • Cheekyweegit (feel awful calling you that!!) at least it was the old car that was bumped :)

    Cant see it being a problem as I think they are taking any old banger, whether battered or nice :cool:

    Thankfully I think the any old banger bit is my saving grace whether it runs or not or whether it's cosmetically perfect.

    Mine runs great and I really feel guilty as there is another Mondeo driver on here having no end of problems with their car. If I could donate my engine to them and any other parts I certainly would. If only they were en route to Attleborough and some one could tow me the rest of the way. Hint hint (subtle by the way) to anyone reading and know the poster I'm speaking about.).
  • Scrap the car and keep the good engine, I bet a few people with the skills are doing stuff like that. Alot of the parts on a car is worth good money, shame to waste it

    bumper wont matter but major stuff like an engine is serial stamped and in theory they could object

    I went to purchase a brand new car at the weekend on the scrappage scheme. As I explain to the salesman, my car would be 10 years old on 1st september 2009. he told me this was fine took my deposit and I signed the deal, however this morning he called me and explained that my car was not elidgeible for this scheme as it had not been registered on or before before the 31st of August 1999. I have not seen this anywhere and all the dealerships that I visited, I was not advised about this. Why is it that this scheme is still being offered to customers that own a car that is or will be 10 years old but not registered before this date. I was under the impression that the government were trying to help the industry ??? Beats me!!!

    Salesman was a bit of a plonker then, the rules are very clear on this;

    I don't think it will make any difference because your car will be stripped and crushed.
    I was in a breakers yard last week and it was an absolute shame to see some of the cars they had taken in (better than some on the road).
    Hope the person who ran into the back of you are going to pay for the damage.
