I went with the Toyota main dealers GAP/VRI by black horse RPP,
They wanted to charge £499 - but they dropped the price to £199 that is why I took it, I have never bought a new car before does that price sound good or should I cancel it, any help would be much appreciated.0 -
The problem is that I expect to drive the car, with the tax expiring on 31st August, to the dealer on the 1st of September as that is the easiest way for me to get to the dealer's which is about 150 miles from my home.
Drive the car down on the 31st, stay in a hotel overnight pick your car up in the morning, simple.0 -

Check your own car insurance policy, it may well cover your needs without the Gap cover.0 -

But, how much would a hotel be for a night against the cost of one months tax?0 -

Hi Guys
Found this thread last nigt after we had more or less decided to order a brand new Citroen C2 using the scrappage scheme. However I now think we may be able to get something better after reading back 9 pages of this thread.
Today I plan at looking at;
Toyota Yaris T2 & TR
VW Polo
Nissan Note
Mazda 2
Fiat Grande Punto
Hyundai i20
These all come out cheaper than the C2 but are that little bit bigger than the really small city cars - the nearest spec i20 is almost £3000 cheaper than the C2!
Can anybody add anything to the list? Budget is around £11000 before the scrappage and we are looking for the next size up from the tiny cars IYSWIM......Yaris instead of Aygo, i20 instead of i10 etc
Great thread, thanks guys:heart: I love my gorgeous little girl0 -
I went for the mazda 2 but you could look at ford ka, ford fiesta and alpha mito0

Whatcar? do a new car guide scrappage special magazine it has a page review of every car available in the UK, it's £5.99, and very handy, I would check the prices they quote against the manufacturers website, as when I went to Volkswagen the price of a new Polo was £600 more than whatcar's target price, Whatcar also have a website where you can watch video test drives of cars you are interested in, just choose a make and model and click on video tab,
My main criteria was fuel economy & 5 door,
The Aygo won for me at 62.4 mpg, the Aygo is the same car as the Citroen C1 & the Peugeot 107, although the Aygo is the cheapest of the 3, £400 cheaper than the C1, and £1000 cheaper than the 107,
The next best mpg is the Suzuki Alto and the Nissan Note (both the same car and made by Suzuki in India), I think the Nissan is slightly cheaper & both getting 61.4mpg,
Volkswagens seem to be very poor mpg, the Polo does 48mpg, the Fox does 48mpg.0 -
A tip for anyone thinking of ordering a VW...there is a manufr price rise on 1st Sept on most models, so you need to have your order accepted in August to avoid it. The only models NOT affected are Touareg, Eos, PassatCC and Phaeton ..and of course new Polo is not predicted to change as that pricing has only just come out in the past few days as a new model.
..and don't forget VAT goes back up to 17.5% 1st Jan' so you need to focus on cars deliverable this year in the 4mth scrappage limit.
Finding stocks on many (desirable) cars has been difficult this summer and with reduced production on many brands this year it won't get any easier Oct-Dec to find stock to match everyone's requirements. There is already a surge to get cars registered this year to avoid the higher VAT from January. More cars than exepected have had to revert to factory order waits as drivers were unable to pick up 'off the shelf' their exact preferred specification.
Hope that helps!“Official Company Representative
