Hi, I'm waiting for delivery of a Kia Picanto (It'll be called Perry if you're interested;)) don't know the delivery date yet but should be pretty soon. How do I go about insuring it as my father has told me that it will need to be insured so that the dealer can tax it. As I don't know when it's coming and I don't know the reg number either, how do I go about sorting this out? Thanks!

until you get the reg number, you cant insure it, and they cant tax it

however to cut down on time needed with paperwork going backwards and forwards, once they have a reg number most dealers offer a free 7-day insurance, that can be done online/phone in a few minutes, so they can tax the car, whilst you sort out your own insurance at your own pace

i am getting a kia picanto and they give you seven days free insurance so they can tax it for you and you can drive it away, if you go to the kia website click on new cars then on insurance, also don't forget that you get 1 year free roadside assistance

I was quoted this yesterday from my local Ford dealer...
(Prices are minus the £2000 scrappage and are pre-July made but are new/never been registered)

Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec, 5 Doors, Black - £10,120 approx
Ford Fiesta 1.4 Titanium, 5 Doors, Black - £12,250 approx

If I customised these on the Ford website, the Zetec would cost £14,120 and the Titanium cost £14,720 meaning a difference of £4,000 and £2,470. A saving of £2,000 on top of the scheme for the Zetec and only £470 on the Titanium.

What do you people think? Which one would you go for? I was told if I wanted the pre-Julys it would depend on their stock (which was going quick - though perhaps a scare tactic?). They also said the scrappage might be running out (another scare tactic) though this is believable due to the 59 plates available from September?
  • Our partnered Ford dealers would be at £10056 for latest-build stock on the 1.4 5dr Zetec in a metallic with scrappage for registration this month or in September on 59 plates, although most of the 1.4 Zetec stock has bluetooth fitted at £135 extra.

The deal on the 1.4 5dr Titaniums in metallics with scrappage comes out at £10,705, all normal first registered owner brand new cars

So just as 2 examples..it shows you can do better as that dealer does not seem to passing on any of the pre-July stock savings at all

You can take stock vehicles or order to suit yourself from scratch.
It shows they are not passing on any pre-July build saving at all, there were no spec' changes on 1st July so cars are exactly the same.
Hope that helps put some sense around the pricing a bit!

You're not joking there. My son (Panelbeater/Sprayer) used to work at the VW Plant in Emden - built and exported Passats - in the 'Rectification' Department. Scratches and dents were ten a penny, but the big jobs were when they collided hard being driven out, fell off transporters, hit quayside bollards, got things dropped on them etc. etc.
Not to worry, they come out looking nice with a factory finish paint job and they're still new cars under warranty and QC was very strict!

I wondered if this has happened to my i20. 10 weeks after I picked it up, the first time I did a proper clean in the wheel arch area I noticed the front bumper isn't painted on one side in the wheel arch area, & has poor paint coverage on the other side. Also the bumper cap for the airbag sensor is distorted, with screwdriver marks where it's been removed before. Taking it back to the dealers anyway to get this all corrected.
    Next year we'll be millionaires!

I've just been to look at a new Ford, which qualifies for the scrappage scheme.

Guess what? it's OTR price is £1200 OVER the OTR price that What Car quote? (and that's before you look at their lower target price, which is about another £1200 less than that!)

I want to buy a Meteor Red Kia Ce'ed preferably an SR-7 but I have not found one or been able to order one. Does anyone know of any place where I would be likely to get an SR-7 (any colour) on the scrappage deal?

seeing as the scrappage scheme is only available on new cars, you dont have to find one, as that car will already have been allocated, if its in a dealer possession. However, if you say a dealer is unable to order you one, then it means there is no stock available
