Ouch DMV! Hope you feel better by the time your hol starts!

Got my Garmin yesterday, so went out for a run with it. Also took it on a bike ride thru the woods with C today. Very pleased with it! :)

I think Thursday counted as a rest day in Missy-world.

I'm goingto have a little lie down now I've read what you've done this week, Missy.:o

LOL Thursday was my hardest day I think Granny! Today was the rest, 40 mins easy road cycling on the flat & absolutely nothing else :)

We've been chatting about 'rest days' over on the exercise thread and I think we seem to agree rest days don't have to be completely sedentary, as long as they aren't strenuous. Be interested to hear what others think?

'Completely sedentary' is only something you can achieve if you are seriously ill Missy; I'm sure your normal day-to-day activities are far more than that! As you know, I personally think that real rest days are very important and there is lots of evidence out there to support that. Here's a link which may be useful in helping you decide if you're in danger of doing too much (SO hard to see when you're in it, as you know I know only too well). I thought the heart rate tests looked interesting. Hope it helps x

I suppose you know your own body Missy, you'd know if you were pushing to hard, you'd be constantly tired and run down.

I've been told that rest days are good because muscles only improve when resting.
When you are exercising the muscle fibres break down, and when you rest they repair themselves stronger.

I'm absolutely not questioning the importance of rest, I include rest and gentler days every week (following harder days with easier ones). Last week I also halved my efforts for a whole easier week, which I plan to do regularly every 4-6 weeks during the summer :)

When my rest day falls on a day when I'm doing absolutely nothing else, like today, I would have thought going out on my bike for 40 mins would be OK? That is less activity than walking round the shops for an hour, for example :p That's what I was getting at really?

Been missing this week. I've been taking part in an annual sporting competition though unfortunately only as a reserve. The other downside is the fact I have been to 2 bbqs and out for a curry with people from work and the rest of the time I'm fairly sure my eating hasn't been that restrained (so much for my own personal boot camp week!). Felt awful after the curry, really too full but I definitely didn't eat what I would've considered a huge amount, I really must remember when out and about that I can only manage smaller portions nowadays - definitely eyes being bigger than stomach!
Anyway I'm going to be able to up my activity this week as I'm no longer going to be involved in the twice daily training sessions. Looking forward to circuits, swimming, spinning and running again and eating sensibly. I will get rid of those last 7lbs even if I can't quite maintain at that level.

Ooops a rambling post to make up for no post this week.
