Buttons I've recently discovered Annabel Karmel has a website here so no need to buy her books. It's been working for us the last few (DS's thing is "ooo, yucky yuck"). I've started slowly with homemade veg soup and the like. My doctor is from Zambia and he has always says he knows it's harsh and not many people like to remember it...but it takes alot longer than a few days for a little child in darkest africa to fall to starvation. Children have a way-they know when they've gone too long. Well done for getting her to have the egg.

Right, codiene is kicking in (oh I hope it won't fret with my temp-I was getting so excited to get a full months chart) so Im going to bed tonight-playgroup in the morning and I really have to go (only a few houses down though so easier) and I really need to do some work on the house-at least the lounge.

So I hope you all have a good nights sleep...looking forward to a better day tomorrow.

    Evening all,

    Polka
    - ouch! I hope you're not too bruised after your fall.

Raph - good luck with your application & rebooking the balloon flight.

    Victory
    - what can I say, sometimes the ones we love let us down. Chin up!

Buttons - with fussy eaters, the best advice I can offer is to make sure DD is frequently offered the chance to eat when she's going through a refusing phase, but make it varied. Be careful she doesn't swap one lot of usual foods for another small variety. Try to make the foods look appetising; I cut up and arranged different fruits on a plate to make them look prettier, and even put a small dish of yogurt on the side to use as a 'dip'. It worked! They didn't recognise some of the fruits so ate them anyway, then found out they like melon & nectarines. Now they love fruit. Disguise healthy foods in sauces, if that's easier. Try to not have the foods you don't want her to have in the house, it's too easy for her to hold out for stuff she knows is there. If it's not there, she has to make other choices, and she will. Mine prefer white bread, but I only buy wholemeal, so now they eat wholemeal, because they like to have bread.

Mazza - well done on stopping smoking, and losing weight. Two fantastic healthy, life changing choices to make. You must be feeling so much better.

Today I packed all the wood flooring into my car, then dug up some shrubs to bring down to our house. OH lifted some paving slabs I'd put down, to bring to our's, while I went to see a friend for a cuppa. She's a bit stressed right now, as her DH has been asked to relocate to Warwickshire, and she's not so keen, plus house prices there are very high compared to here. I'll really miss her if she goes too, but have just been lending my ear today.

Tomorrow I'll be out on another long drive with the BF, who wants to go collect a bike he bought on ebay. So, off to Colchester we go! He's promised to get me lunch out, but I reckon that means making me a tuna roll to eat en route!

    Food today:
    B - porridge
    L - 4 slices nimble 1 banana
    D - wholewheat pasta & h/m bolognese

I'm feeling rather achy today, but think that's partly all the heavy lifting, and also that my BF was very unsettled during the night, jiffling around in the bed, waking me up, so maybe my body is a bit tired. Bed soon though.

    Toodles noodles!

Polka - I actually bought a few annabel karmel recipe books, and she did eat them way back when she was non fussy, but a lot of the foods seem to be in sauces and for some reason she recoils at sauce based food!

Sary - Well I cleared out the crips/sweet cupboard so all she can see in there right now is a loaf! She is very stubborn, and for some reason won't even entertain the thought of something simple like a sandwich (even though it's bread and she will eat that) or soup! Veg is hard to hide as she doesn't seem keen on sauce based things, though she will eat a curry, so I think that's going to be best route to encouraging her to try more sauce based things.

I intend to give her cereal for breakfast, sandwich for lunch and I think we are having chicken fried rice for dinner, so I'm thinking she will probably avoid the sandwich, but perseverence! I'm not letting her get her own way anymore.

I also think I shouldn't just expect her to eat majorly different foods straight away, like lasagne or spag bol, I think I'll base more meals around things she will be more likely to try and evolve from that, like she will eat rice so I'm thinking rissotto's, currys and maybe some rice/veg mix, and I know she likes chicken nuggets, so maybe things like fish goujons with veg and salad on the plate too.

I'll get there with her, it's just frustrating, and deffo no more sweets! I've got raisins so she'll get offered those or a yoghurt or fruit, she is okay with fruit, but I might buy in cocktail sticks so it makes it different to eat?

I do involve her in the cooking process, she helps throw things in the pots and stirs ingrediants, and she loves doing it, just not so keen on eating the end product. Her favourite things to say is "I DONT LIKE FOOD" or "I DONT WANT TO EAT!"

I only wish I had that code, I wouldn't be fat! Hehe.

Buttons - if it's any consolation, I was a very fussy eater, hated veg & salad, didn't like gravy, didn't like cakes, etc. until I was about 8. I was underweight, and tiny as a kid, to the point where my mum took me to the doctors. I wasn't being purposefully difficult, and didn't necessarily feel I was using food to battle against, I just didn't feel that hungry, and didn't like trying new things, or even think much about food. I also didn't drink much fluids, so had problems with my kidneys.

Then I just changed, probably matured a bit, and now I'm here! I was overweight by the time I started senior school, so that gives you some idea how quickly I grew to like food! It took until I was approaching adulthood to like all my veg & salads in particular, but now I'm not so fussy. Apparently children's tastebuds are much more sensitive than us adults, so strong flavours might be a problem for some.

Perseverence will be the key, and you're doing all the right things. I was going to suggest something like cocktail sticks, so go for it! Handling food, and getting used to the smells & textures is all part of learning about food, so you're doing all the right things. It will improve.

  • BM - you are doing a great job, as others have said - holding out has begun to pay off. I read an article very recently by an expert in fussy toddlers and apparently it is very normal for kids as babies to eat quite a variety and then enter this hyper fussy stage. But they too said kids will not starve themselves, so hang on to that and keep going.

Polka - you are having a lousy lousy time aren't you. Hope you have no big damage from your fall but it must have shaken you up. Your gp sounds a mix of supportive and yet does some things/says things that leaves you uncertain of his support: is it possible to ask him to clarify what he means/thinks. I wish you had an advocate to go in with you. I know there are some schemes where you be a patient advocate but don't know much more.

Victory - your DH never remembers these things but you clearly live in hope. Do you not think there is a risk that is he came up with the goods - self bought card, flowers, meal, suprise weekend away with childcare organised... you might be hospitalised from the shock?

Go seren, go seren:T Well done those with losses coming in.

must get to bed... hope to chat more tomorrow

Hi guys, Im not very organised Im afraid and I cant do much exercise due to knee probs. BUT I thought Id join in because I have managed to lose a huge roll of fat round my waist in the last 6 weeks. (I havent weighed myself as I know it would depress me as I was size 10/12 up til 4 years ago when I got a back and knee prob) I have been a big 16 for about a year nearly. Ive been walking about 2 miles a day with one of my dogs (the other one is disabled and that also meant I wasnt exercising as much as I used to. Ive gritted my teeth and taken out my other dog every lunch time on his own, which makes me feel guilty but the other boy doesnt seem that worried about it).

But it is wonderful not to see that roll of fat under my jumpers :) I also put on a pair of jeans that I hadnt been able to do up for about 3 months and they are loose :) I reckon I must have lost about 8 or 9 lbs. Ill wait til I am down to a size 14 and then Ill weigh myself.

Anyone explain this...tried on my summer clothes/hol clothes yesterday and 6 of the trousers/short do not fit, well they do if I do not want to move or breath:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:checked on my chart and I am 4.5lb off the exact weight of last July so surely if 10lb is a dress size they should fit this year? Or maybe they didn't last year? Yes they did I have photos to prove I wore them:rotfl::rotfl:going to have to go to more boot fairs to get some summer stuff in now, :D
