Granny I'm using clothes as a measure as I have a good supply of stuff which was too tight which is now loose or looks good. Slightly annoyingly I've got one or two new things that I bought expecting to be stuck at a petite 14 which are now a little loose too! I also can see it in pictures and being vain I appreciate the comments from others. The big marker will be my mum who I last saw when I'd only lost 3lb and now I've almost lost 20% of my body weight.

Been better with food and exercisethis week so hopefully I will show a loss this week.

Sary I've got a bit relaxed too but I would really love to shift the last 6 lbs to reach my target and then work on maintaining.

Scottish lass I'm going to try and watch the 10 things prog on I Player later. Read an article from it about how soup is a really good weightloss tool. This seems to be the week for sensible weightloss tips as my runner's mag has a special section on weightloss and some of the stuff there makes sense and if I rememeber rightly echoes a lot of the ideas on here.

Right getting to the end of the epic...just one question. I think I'm nearly there with the weightloss but I feel my % body fat is a bit high. Does anyone know where I can find info on sensible and safe levels of body fat? And how can I go about lowering my body fat?

Thanks alot raph - it's good to cull the list if peeps don't post for a month, otherwise it just becomes unweildy and the figures don't mean anything anymore anyway. People can always be put back on. The chart originally started as a monthly challenge and you had to actively sign up each month saying you wanted to be on it.

Yes, I watched the 10 things to help you lose weight. All good tips and all stuff I knew but it was a good reminder and I liked the scientific justification for each one. I think I need to buy a smaller plate for me: we had already got smaller plates but I think I need to go smaller still. I also think I ought to try and introduce soup as a starter to an evening meal more often so we eat less for the main bit and stay fuller for longer. The explanation for how you lose weight more weight for the 24+ hrs after exercise was inspiing, as was the study of just moving around more in your day (as opposed to 'exercising'.) I already experience the benfits of eating more protein.
It was interesting how the larger lady thought she had a slow metabolism but it was proved she was under-recording the amount of calories she actually ate. Basically, she was eating very healthy food, just too much of it.

Sary - I certainly need to re enthuse myself, I'm just so damn tired that it's difficult to find the energy at the mo to plan ahead properly and I'm finding it hard to be bothered. It's like I only have a certain amount of energy, and at the mo I am using it up of major changes at home with de-clutering and such like: then there's little left to food plan. Still, I need to do this; there is no other way and will look at planning again... tomorrow...
    so, I'd like to:
    1. buy a smaller plate,
    2. plan for more soups and
    3. get my 2 weekly meal planner up and running again
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

BB - that sounds like a great way to start, and very constructive planning. I hear what you're saying about energy levels, and I agree that food-planning just seems to be yet another 'thing' to have to contend with each day. Like you, I am sticking with using my small plate, and ensuring I don't deviate from that. I am going to keep my protein levels up, and my carb levels lower, and more complex. I am also going to stop being so blummin lazy, and fetch a can of soup from the utility room cupboard for lunch, or make up a fruit salad, rather than pick at easy stuff. Today was day 1, and so far, so good!

KPC - I was joking! I forgot I'd mentioned doing a big pile of *daren't use the 'I' word* creased clothes yesterday; I know it's a bit of a taboo subject matter for some, and I hate doing it too. I remember you saying about clearing out the shed, and was really pleased. I find a good bit of decluttering, or even life laundry, definitely helps. I have tried to be quite drastic myself this year, but some of it is almost emotionally draining, as I'm fighting my natural instinct to keep (translate as 'hoard'). A fair bit of what I've got packed in boxes has a lot of emotional attachment too, from my 'previous life', that I struggle to either look at, or to dispose of.

Vixstar - I wonder if it's partly to do with having got some good results, getting into some smaller clothes, and seeing the benefits that slows up the impetus? I've been busy on a practical level, but when it's come to menu planning, calorie counting, and generally eating well, I've been a bit lax. Fine that I've not gained, but I've not lost either.

Thanks for doing the chart Raph.

SARY - I was tempted to cook what I had planned/prepared but 1) I know he would have ordered kebab anyway because once he gets something in his head he's stuck on it so 2) i couldnt be bothered to cook just for myself and waste some 3) doing so would have caused tension and whilst we (mostly!) get along well, lately I have noticed that if I get stressed out and pull him up on stuff all that happens is i get stressed out, we have agro, I get upset (not hard lol) and nothing changes! Therefore by biting my tongue about the smaller stuff I get less stressed, he realises I have done so and makes a bit more of an effort to appreciate it/me and ultimately we are both happier. The whole acceptance and balance thing etc.

Well on a more upbeat note chicken and salad was yummy! Studying has made me very drained (had plenty of sleep last few nights tho) so watched a bit of a scary movie and am drinking sugar free red bull to try to give me a couple more hours work, albeit at a slightly slower pace. I just dont have any other option right now but to push on.

BB and SARY - Im with you on the re-enthusing self bit. Im gonna zero myself when I go on holiday and start afresh again once I come back. That way I dont have to report a gain and hopefully I should find it easier to lose that holiday weight (as it is extra) than I have been finding it to lose my "regular" weight if that makes sense? Of course that probably wont be the case, but thats what I'm hoping for!

    Hi everyone

I just wanted to pop in and let you know I'm going to disappear again for a while. Had a bit of a breakdown this morning ( started with the cake but really that was just a trigger). I will be lurking but I worry that I want be able to bring much to the board that is hugely positive-so whilst I'm back at councelling and getting back on meds,I'll just watch from outside if thats okay...I'll be keeping up with my facebook as much as I can to keep it normal (I dont want my parents to know Im struggling again) so if you haven't sent me a friend request yet please do (Sary can help you find me).
Thinking of you all and looking forward to being well enough to join you again.

Polkadot there isn't a rule about having to contribute positively to the board, sometimes people do need to express worries and concerns. Don't feel you have to 'go' becasue you're going through a bad patch. It's great that you're getting counselling to help you at a difficult time.

Having said that, you just do whatever you want that makes you feel right. You keep lurking, and we'll all love having you back whenever you're ready. Hugs from Granny XX

    PS See you on FB.
