Can I have a Visa Debit with NatWest??

Afternoon!
I popped to Natwest today and asked if we were to transfer our account to Natwest fully would they offer us a full Maestro card...answer was No, we don't meet their 'minimum score', but she couldn't tell me why.
Anyhow, asked about the Visa Debit issue and she claimed to know nothing about it, her colleague said 'oh there is something circulating about it' I asked what sort of card the Solo card will be replaced with if they couldn't offer a Maestro now and she thought it was going to be a standard cashpoint card with no debit facility.
She did say she didn't really know for sure but her manager had 'mooted it about'
Not sure how correct this is given both were rather vague, hope it's not true though.0 -

My Maestro which was issued in May this year, expires 05/11.
Rubbish if they bring in Visa debits sooner and I have to wait all that time to get one. Or, shall I ring up and say the chip isn't working...... might they send me another maestro?? Hmm.Vanquis- Limit £1250, balance £0
Capital One Classic- Limit £800, balance £0
Natwest Current Account- £800 OD limit, approx £600 OD
Loan- £3300, will be paid off by Dec 09
Student Loan- paid off Dec 09 (That's £150 a month extra! Woohoo)
Empire Catalogue Account- £750 limit, balance £300 -

Why was everyone happy to have their Solo/Maestro card before, as they kept their Natwest accounts and didn't switch to another bank, but now everyone's desperate to get rid of them? You could have had Visa years ago elsewhere.0

It is very well know in the banking industry that inertia is the main reason people stay with the same bank their whole lives. Well it used to be the case as times move on I am sure it will be changing (no pun intented).
As for the Maestro / SOLO issue, I would not have a problem myself having a Maestro card as long as I was travelling in Europe, but a Visa is simply better / more widely accepted than both. Also I have found that SOLO cards with Maestro on the back dont work in retailers abroad who take Maestro. No idea why,0
