Can I have a Visa Debit with NatWest??

I have just been reading this article and you've got me wondering now if NatWest is switching over to a Visa Debit card.
I have just this week managed to upgrade my bank card to a Maestro Servicecard 100 and when I looked at the expiry date on the card, it said 12/10 which is only 1 year and a half away. I thought this was strange as normally a card will last about 3 years or if more.
After reading from here and checking those links some people have posted including wikipedia and the news article, I called a NatWest adviser today and asked about the switch to a Visa Debit card. She said it was in the pipeline and going to be carried out shortly. She even asked one of her managers too, just to confirm.
So everyone, looks like NatWest Visa Debit card is coming soon.
Yes we know youll find an insert in your next statment about it if you havent had one already.
Starts the 5th septemeber the contract with meastro runs out 12/10 so all cards should be visa debit by then.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
But will everyone recieve theirs at roughly the same time/month/whatever? or will the process take long?0

I suspect it will be like HSBC and rolled over a period. A lot of people got their VISA debit cards in Jan. I am still with trusty old Solo!0

It will get rolled out in phases remember they need to issue cards to the whole banking groups customers.
So I doubt all of its customers will recieve a new visa debit card in the same month lolIm an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Just ordered a replacement card and will be very interested to see if the switch over has happened.
Also interested to know how they plan on issuing Visa Debit or Visa Electron Cards (or a combination of the both, if so, how they will determin who gets what)
I have a Maestro Card at the moment and don't really want to get stuck with a Visa Electron card (as apparently these don't work in the States/Canada) and, from experience, aren't accepted as widely as the 'normal' Visa Debit cards.
Any RBS employee's able to shed any light on the situation?0 -

In the amendments to terms and conditions in your most recent statement the terms change from 05/09/2009 so I would imagine this when they first cards will role out. Also in the t's&cs it says that they will change the card type only if it is better or the equivalent(sp) of your current card so in theory your Maestro can't be replaced by an electron.0 -

The new cards wont be issued until august/september at the earliest.
All cards will become visa debit cards regardless to what current account you hold.
Visa electon is being phased out as a brand so that card type will be extinct over the next few years.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Ulsterbank are also rolling out their visa debit cards in September. I got a letter yesterday. The part you'll get an equivilant or better card is not in the change of terms and conditions tho.0

Wow just heard about all this after getting an email from Google about Google Checkout dropping Maestro.
REALLY looking forward to Natwest issuing me a Visa Debit. Have been tempted a few times to change banks as Maestro is just rubbish.
Don't suppose any of those banks listed above accept new customers currently in their overdraft do they? lol0
