Janner, I hope all goes well for you at weekend. Are you going to take him out somewhere and let him off the lead??? I bet its scary...0

im not quite sure what to do to be honest, i know that we pick him up in apark where we have the first lesson, i suppose thats about obediance and training. then i suppose we will be desparate to see how he is going to be with dogs that he hasnt spent the last 2 weeks with, so i bet we go somewhere to walk him to see how he reacts with other dogs, but i know that i and my partner will be quite anxious, worried that hes going to go for other dogs and im worried that our anxiety will spread down the lead to him and make him aggressive!!!
however, what i would really love (and what may be totoally unrealistic) would be for us to be able to test him out and him be ok and then for us to be able to let him off the lead and throw things for him, we have never been able to do that before0 -

Well my doggie is on its way to the vets for the fourth time now and I have deserted him by not going. I am on pins now and worrying like crazy. My hubby and son have taken him to see if he is better without me:o.
I am going to have to go for a walk as I need something to do. Will post up with results later. I just hope they say they are healing.
Update again.....
He has been fine and although he did the usual growling overall he was very good. He also had to walk past another border in the door way and he never batted an eyelid so I am told...
His eyes are healing still and they have now given us drops again like we had the very first time we took him. I am going to have to ring them tomorrow though as they have not given us any receipts the last two visits as their card machine broke down and they have not had any money from us yet. He has had some jabs done as well tonight. I feel great now but my hubby says that they never said anything about the follow up but will ring me tomorrow. At least things are looking up for him now I think. He is still closing his left eye though and rubbing it. Apparently they never put any flourecent dye in tonight either
to see the ulcer. It was another vet, a man, and he just looked and said they were healing ok. Will know more tomorrow.

Not to judge you, but alarm bells should be ringing when he behaves for a trainer and not for you!!!! the answer to that seems pretty simple, you need to work with him, you both need training not just him, and you need to do it together, sending your dog away for training is the most ridiculous idea i've ever heard!!You need to take him to training classes where there are other dogs around so he can learn how to socialise and gain good manners. If you find a good trainer and explain the problems to them, a good trainer who knows what they are doing won't be put off by what you say and will offer to help! It sounds to me like fear aggression, the fact the he makes noises when out on lead, growls at people who get 'in his space', all sounds familar to a fear aggressive dog i had and after 3 years of training and working with him, he was the best dog i'd ever had!DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 315Married 03/04/2010with many thanks to MSE Wedding boardLO 23/03/12 Special thanks to TTC thread0

I am asking people who are out on the streets to say hello and give him a treat and he is great. He is barking though now when I talk to people but not nasty, just attention barking as if to say " Its me you should be concentrating on ". I am VERY pleased with my work of the last three weeks and I have a much happier dog really. I have to muzzle him at the vets and that is fine. He was in pain and that is how I look at it.
As regards the sending a dog off to training, lots of people do it. Its not ridiculous but admit its not for me and I only asked if anyone had ever done it. Please don't put people off doing it as for some it works. I was not asking for judgement, just help and I got lots off the wonderful people on here. They have helped me through a time when I was at a loss. I realise I am the problem and not all the dog too.0 -
sounds like you're doing all you can, and if he's come along in the past 3 weeks, who knows where you'll be with him in a years time. it's all worth it, no matter how stressed you get and how tedious things can be. the day you turn and look at your dog and think to yourself just how much they have come on is a wonderful feeling. wishing you lots of luck with him keep posted how he's doingDMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 315Married 03/04/2010with many thanks to MSE Wedding boardLO 23/03/12 Special thanks to TTC thread0

Well after all my work and rewarding tonight my dog has growled at someone again. I was out walking and a neighbour up the road came to say hello. I gave him the treat and he sat and took it but then the man talked all nicey nicey to him (this is his problem really with strangers) and he growled. He does not trust people being nice to him. I have had a thought and it goes back a fair few years. Our postie left the gate open once and he and our other dog went walkies on their own. After 10 mins I went to let them back in and noticed the gate open. I then got a phone call from a man saying my dog was on the road a couple of mins away and he had him safe but he was growling at him. We ran to get him and our little dog was just bombing round the corner like lassie dog almost saying to us "quick, hurry, someones got my brother and we have to save him". When we got him from the man he said he was glad we had come cause he did not know how much longer he could have held him. He also said that he loved dogs and we were so grateful to him but I wonder if from then our dog thinks strangers are going to make off with him
.
I swear I will get this sorted if it kills me. He has also got into this barking continuous if I talk to people. I have to get a trainer in I think. ALso I am annoyed that I have put some eye drops in tonight cause he was scratching again on one eye and it has made it worse again and he is closing it. I feel back to square one.
These are the things I need to correct and believe me I am trying. Getting him out of the gate without the horrific noise of excitement. It does calm eventually but it takes time.
Walking at heel as he takes me all the time till he is knackered then he relaxes a little. Allowing me to talk to people as he knows how to drown the conversation by dominant barking. Lunging at dogs although he is great when they are barking at him from opposite side or in their gates and just gets on with it. Growling at strangers that talk nice to him but he is better with someone that does not give him much attention although he has never bitten or snapped at anyone. If I can sort this maybe he will be better able to be treated at the vets. I realise I have to change but I need assistance I think.
Positive things about him are he will sit and wait at the door til i say he can go out (but if he is going walkies then he will sit at the gate and you would literally have to drag him back in and he holds onto the tarmac).
He will sit and wait for meals even when its on the floor.
He will recall when off the lead.
He will sit at kerbs when I ask him to.
He will take treats nicely and so gentle.
He is great in the house and always has been and has never chewed or messed anything. Also does not bark at people passing by but does at other dogs from inside OUR gate but not the other way around.
Also we have a little lhasa and I think he may have something to do with our big dogs problems. The Lhasa is top dog and although he was joining the training he has now got fed up and just ups and goes back to his basket now if I am asking them to sit in the porch before they go out. Its like he says "I am too old for all this now" - he is 12...so we are allowing one behaviour from one dog (top dog) and then trying to train the other. I was told by Bark Busters some time ago and he thought our bigger dogs problems would stem from the little one. He said he would need to see both dogs and that would be double money:eek:.
Sorry to go on again.

I have had to ring the vet today as my dogs eyes are both really bad again today. We have to take him in monday morning as they are going to operate again. I asked why on Wednesday evening he did not have the floursecein dye in again and why he was discharged
and they said that the vet that saw him SHOULD have put the dye in but they do not know why they did not and discharged him. I am so annoyed at this. Its just getting worse and worse. No wonder he is growly again.
