Anyone sent their dog off to training camp??

right, afternoon walk, on my own, the first time since he came out of 'camp'.
walking to heel, very successful, took a few occassions of 'flick, NO, turnaround' to prevent him from trying to get ahead of me, people down the road must have thought i was mad because the space of 100 yards i had turned round in a circle about 4 times where i was turning back on myself!!!
however, after this, heel walking was brilliant, and in fact i had to check a few times to check that he was still attached to the lead as i thought i was just holding a lead with no dog on it.
then we got to the park, he was on the extendable lead as i didnt trust him to come back with just me walking him and no partner but i extended it and gave the command, 'away you go' so he went ahead of me then because he is allowed to. walked all over the park and its s0ds law that the only dogs we saw were at a distance so couldnt assess the agression very well, however, when we walked past people this time, including school girls sitting on the grass, he didnt do his usual pulling over to them and leaping up, he just walked past and did a bit of a sniff to them.
then the walk back home, walking to heel again nicely apart from the very first bit where we left the park where i had to do the flick, NO turnaround thing and then on he was ok.
then right near home, a bloke was talking to some friends and had a puppy staff who he was showing to them. my dog got up parallel to him and then pulled, so he got the NO, but he was quite distracted by the dog. i got him to sit calmly, which he did, just looking at the dog, then i tried to walk on again with him but he pulled again, and i dont think i corrected him quick enough so i need to try harder with that. my rule is going to be that when he is off lead or having 'freetime' (commanded by 'away you go')) he can go up to dogs, but when walking to heel he musnt do this unless invited by me to sniff sniff.
i thought he did very well considering that i walk very slowly and it must be hell for him to heel walk to me, we went through a railway underpass thing which he hasnt been in before wherre an announcement was being made, plus in the park there were gaggles of shreiking school girls everywhere and on the way back the local primary school had just come out so loads of little running kids everywhere with cars a plenty and school mums. i am very pleased with him today0 -

thanks, i know its only a day but we have seen a difference in him, he is calmer in the house, so we are calmer, he isnt following us around the house so much an an exciteable manner. i think the only thing that will be hard to change will be my partner and the dogs worship of him. when we were playing fetch last night, i threw it every time and the dog bought it back to him, not me. when i was walking the dog to heel, if my partner was behind or in front of me, the dog was either pulling or lagging depending on where he was rather than being controlled by me.0

Just another update. Been to the vets (7th visit) for my dogs "superficial"
corneal ulcer and its STILL not healed. In fact the dye has taken up most of his eye now. They want to see him again next week?? He has now had two ops and they have not worked. He has been quite ok since the last op last monday until the sun was shining yesterday and today. God knows what they will do next! He must be uncomfortable with it but still wags.

If he was my dog I would be asking for a referral to a specialist TBH....0 -

Are you the one that feeds him and gives him treats?
This is one way of making the dog look up to you - you control his environment (not in a mean way of course) and if he wants a reward he has to do something for you.
We make our dog sit before we take off his muzzle and lead after a walk - and now we make him wait until the finish command too. If he wants a smooth then he has to sit for that too.
I think that the nothing in life is free is a great training philosophy and you would be the one that gives out the something in the short term, not your partner.

We have left it up to the vets to be honest. It all started on the bank holiday in April and he was seen then at vetsnow. They said he had both eyes with corneal ulcers and gave us drops etc and then we went to our own vet a few days later. They said they needed to operate and they did and then after a couple of weeks they said they needed to do it again. They did this last monday and said they should be healed. Tonight he has been back again and they say the left eye is still quite big (but shallow) and he needs to be seen next week. I cannot understand from googling this why they are not healed yet. I am wondering if this is disease and not trauma now. I asked last time and they said not but it seems to be going on and on. Shouldn't it be the vets who suggest a referral? They have said he would be OK but obviously not going by the weeks he has had these. It is annoying as its very stressful for him too and he is not the easiest dog at the vets.
