Neighbour threatening my cat - advice please?

Hi all,
As the neighbours concerned are council tenants I called the council and discussed it with the officer for the area. She said that what was said to me was not acceptable and that she would go and see my neighbours this week to speak to them about it.
Good god, you're wanting the council to threaten to kick them out or something?? God that's awful.0 -
After noticing a certain amount of fist waving and swearing from my neighbour directed at my cat, I purchased a water pistol and went round to the the neighbour and gave it to him ( the pistol not the contents)suggesting that if my cat annoyed him he squirt the cat with it. It seemed better than the possible alternative. Anyway said neighbour was so embarassed he offered to pay for the water pistol. Seemed to work well.....neighbour totally left the cat alone, never had even a slightly damp moggy and the fist waving and swearing stopped.
point in passing cats are useful..I got my cat initally to deal with a mouse problem caused by the same neighbour's avery in his garden. I am willing to live and let live with a bit of wildlife in the garden but it was starting to get like hamblin with the amount coming through the knot holes in the fence.I don't like poisons because i have children.0 -
No, you need to do some reading up - its not the nature of the UK. Cats are a non native species so they don't fit anywhere into the natural cycle over here.
The same still applies - native species or otherwise. My cat doesn't kill the stronger, quicker birds that get away, only the weaker ones that can't, thus leaving the stronger to survive.0 -
I dislike cats but I dilike cat owners that don't see how traumatising it is to see one playing with and then mauling a bird to death more than the cats themselves. I'm fed up of the neighbours cat that pulled a nest of greenfinches out of the tree and mauled them all, and the one that had a young thrush fitting in its mouth.
As for the crapping everywhere, well if I came and crapped in you're garden wouldn't you dislike me? I lob any cat poo I find over the fence onto the neighbours patio. Its their cat and therefore their problem so they can clean it up. I also have a super soaker that I fill with a mix of orange juice and water to spray them whenever I can and this is with the consent of my friend who lives nearby and who's cat is one that gets it occasionally.
Cats are disgusting animals and completely antisocial. I'm really surprised how many cat owners can't see what they are imposing on other people. If I had a dog that went round mauling the neighbours cats then everyone would be up in arms about me hourbouring a brutal animal... well cats are just the same in my opinion.
As for what the neighbour had said to the OP, they were probably overeacting but you need to understand that you're cats behaviour has caused people discomfort so maybe its time to stop being an antisocial neighbour and get it put down?
Sorry to be brutal but this is a subject close to my heart and it makes me angry that cat owners don't see the damage they do.
Deary deary me !! yes if you came and crapped in my garden i would phone the men with a straight jacket to come and get you because you are a human being and know how to use and flush a toilet !!! for gods sake surly you arent being serious pmsl.
Cats are disgusting animals ! well thats your opinion and you are entitled to it but i love them thats why i have two.
get it put down !!!! Its you that is disgusting0 -

So do you think that my cat being maimed or killed makes things right? And why should I have her put down? It is my right to have pets, surely? It is cat's instinct. I could go completely over the top and say that I am a worm lover and birds kill worms - they batter them on patios and stuff - is that not instinct as well?
I am in no way an antisocial neighbour. I don't have wild parties, leave rubbish all over the street or go out of my way to upset anyone, unlike others in this street. I keep myself to myself and live in a decent manner. Owning a cat does not change this. My neighbours leave dog poo all over the communal garden to the rear of my property, my cat's don't even use that area as a toilet. I am not the one in the wrong here.
And as I have already mentioned, I don't like the fact that cats kill other animals, it's not like I thrive on the concept.0 -
"Good grief, I find it worrying that there are so many people happy to commit cruelty to animals and then joke or brag about it...
...I get bird-poo in my yard, should I therefore be torturing and maiming any birds I see as revenge?!"
Don't start me on cruelty to animals...Lots of people kill spiders, which I find despicable, considering that there are no deadly ones in this country. Not to mention fishing for sport!
However, neither spiders or fish leave large smelly deposits in the garden - bird poo is unpleasant, but the odour of cat poo is appalling. And once a neighbour's cat starts using your garden as a toilet, it seems to attract others to do the same. They seem to choose non-cat-owners gardens preferentially, I suppose because the area isn't scented as another cat's territory.
OK, having ranted, can I recommend "Get Off My Garden Crystals" (this is literally the brand name!) to repel cats. They worked very well on our garden.0 -
And I quote...
"Holly leaves, berberis, bramble cuttings and small canes amongst plants in your own garden are perfectly acceptable cat deterrents. You can cover yourself by putting a sign up for pussikins warning it of the danger :rotfl:"
Hilarious aren't you eh? TIT!
Great, blue or long-tailed? Two words for you - Toxocara cati. You'll probably struggle with the pronunciation, given the extent of your vocabulary. Those of us who do not have, nor want, a cat can take reasonable measures to protect our property and our families (particularly younger members) from the unpleasant personal habits of your property, ie your cat.
The RSPB advises the following (amongst other things):- spiked tree collar to prevent climbing up a tree.
- Downward-opening cone or a biscuit tin fixed to the pole below the bird table to prevent cat climbing up it. Vaseline or other grease on a smooth pole will also help.
- Placing clippings from thorny or spiky plants under bird feeders and under bushes will prevent cats from using these areas to stalk birds..
- Bucket or water pistol full of water will help to chase a cat out of the garden. There is an automated option, the scarecrow, which is attached to a hosepipe, and will deliver a water jet when activated by a motion detector, but be aware that water freezing in the pipes can damage the gadget.

I never suggested it should be maimed. The cat is causing you grief, if a dog was causing such distress to a neighbourhood then I would expect it to be put down. You're cat is subjecting people trying to enjoy peace in their own homes to their very own little horror show - is that not antisocial behavior?0
