cats have made large parts of my garden rather disgusting, but I still quite like to see them around. hopefully they catch some rodents in return for 'using' my garden...
I did get some special powder stuff that was supposed to deter them but it made absolutely no difference, I wouldnt bother again.

Your cat killed a bird so they threaten to harm your cat. Two wrongs don't make a right. If it was my cat I would report them to the police.

No cat owners actually like the fact that some cats kill wildlife, it is an instinct and it doesn't stop just because they have a supply of whiskas at home.

Being a cat lover or a keen gardener are not mutually exclusive.

Unfortunately there are a lot of people who hate cats and a lot of people who think hurting animals is a form of entertainment. How satisfying it would be to see the pain and suffering they inflict turned on them.

Try not to worry bunzee, easier said than done I know, hopefully it was just a heat of the moment empty threat.

I love cats but don't have one because I can't take care of it. I'm away too often.

However, if a cat comes into my garden and !!!!!!, I reserve my right to kick it. And Mar.cresham, if you come into my garden to !!!!, I reserve my right to kick you too.

ps in the light of chez22's comment above. Mar.cresham, you are welcome into my garden anytime. I promise that if you come in, I won't attempt to hurt you, as I don't find it entertaining to hurt any animal, bird or other species that comes into my garden. But if you try to have a !!!!, I'll still do my best to kick you.

Also the reason for dog owners to be responsable for there dogs poo is that a dog may poo anywhere ie public paths etc but a cat will almost always try and bury there waste they are very clean animals
I always wear gloves when gardening anyway as ther may be other things in the earth .
So, as long as the s**t is buried you don't mind it being in your garden? Good for you - other people *do* mind it in their gardens. If your cat was decorating my garden you could expect to get the offending whiffy disease-ridden-turd delivered back to your own property, as Gorgeous George describes.

I hope those who choose the extreme action of putting spikes, glass etc are aware that if someone hurts them self on it, be it child or burglar they will be liable for negligence and are saving appropriately for the compensation they will have to pay out ;)..
Holly leaves, berberis, bramble cuttings and small canes amongst plants in your own garden are perfectly acceptable cat deterrents. You can cover yourself by putting a sign up for pussikins warning it of the danger :rotfl:

It's high time that it was law for all cats to be registered, neutered, microchipped and their numbers kept down, particularly in city areas. There should be a requirement for their owners to take out insurance policies for when they run in front of car drivers and cyclists. Don't even get me started on the perils of using theatre/cinema seats or public transport after a cat lover has shed their pet's hairs all over the place...............

I wouldnt mind at all if you delivered the poo back to me as long as you didnt hurt my animal like my neighbour done and what the OP is concerned about.

And if you live in a built up area or estate cat poo is to be expected maybe you chose the wrong place to live.

I guess there may be some people who have cat hair on there clothes , i dont but if thats all you can find to insult a pet owner then i feel sorry for you.

Unlike dogs, cats are useful creatures. If you have one , you won't see a live mouse or rat ever again. If someone harms either a dog or cat I'd lock them up for at least a month, it's bullying pure and simple.

  • Wow, the reactions of some people on here highlight why I'd be scared to own an "outdoor" cat living where I do. Cats are predatory and territorial animals, the owners can no more train them to stop hunting or going to do their do-dos in a garden than you could teach a dog to read the paper or sleep hanging upside down from the rafters.

No matter how irritating or upsetting they may find the natural and instincive behaviour of a cat in hunting birds, there is absolutely no excuse for threatening harm to the cat, it's unpleasant and cruel to threaten it, and if they went through with it they would be breaking the law (and be despicable human beings to boot)

So cats poo in people's gardens. Animals do not understand laws and people's dislike of their natural behaviour. I get bird-poo in my yard, should I therefore be torturing and maiming any birds I see as revenge?! If my neighbours dog barks, should I go and kick it? Of course not.
