Because no one is going to pay the seven pounds twenty excess delivery charge.

Who won't?! If you miss two deliveries then you don't get any choice if you want to receive your parcel(s)! Missing one delivery is bad luck, especially when you've been informed it's due, but to miss a second is irresponsible.

However, at least Citylink have a contact number to mutually re-arrange a missed delivery, unlike Hermes ;)

People won't pay the extra money. They will miss several delivery attempts, blame the courier and cancel the order under DSRs.

Well they're hardly going to have any choice are they! If they subsequently cancel the order then they've forfeited delivery charges anyway so what's the point?

  • Hi I have had a complete nighmare using Hermes delivery company, i ordered items from a company, and as reading this forum, did what most suggested, had the parcel arranged to be delivered to my work place, only Hermes couldnt find this, a high street store! so the parcel got sent staright back to the sender, this was on 25th November and to this day they havent received it back to their returns dept, stupidly in the mean time i placed another order via the same company, only this time to my house address, i kept an eye on the tracking and the first time it was attempted to be delivered i was out, but there were people in at home, so i thought maybe they didnt hear the door, but that couldnt have been the case as i wasnt left a card to say they had been, so may be no one did attempt, the second day i was in, and again, no knock, and no card, i rang the ordering company and they said its ok, the couriers will attempt again tomorrow, only when tomorrow came, i was sitting in my living room, and the pc flashed to say 3rd attempt had been made, i was in, i was straight on the phone, and the company i had ordered with had promised that they would contact Hermes and complain, and get my parcel sent straight back out to me, so today monday i signed in to check the tracking and there it was in black and white, return to sender, another load of christmas presents that i wont have to give, the service is disgraceful, cant find addresses, saying they have been to addresses, when clearly they havent, i wont be buying anything from any company that uses HERMES as their delivery courier, if anyone considers doing this, kiss your parcel good bye as you will NEVER see it.
  • I'd never heard of this company until the other day. I ordered a jacket for my son from Topman on 29th November. I left it a few days and checked the tracking details. It said delivery had been attempted on 1st December around 8pm (I was in, there was no attempted delivery and no card left). The tracker then said 'out for delivery' on 2nd December. Nothing received.

I sent an e-mail to Hermes which came back with an automated reply to contact Topman. I've got to say, that was easier said than done - on hold to an 0844 number for nearly an hour. When it was answered, the lady couldn't locate the field manager and said they would ring me back. No-one did. Rang again the following day - on hold for an hour again. This time, I was told there had never been an attempted delivery, the parcel was lost and they could not offer a replacement as it wasn't their policy and they wern't re-stocking the item until after Christmas. All they could do was refund.

The refund to Paypal was more or less imediate so I can't complain there, it just really annoys me that we are given tracking details which we understand to be correct when they are completely untrue.

I think you need to study the DSRs a little closer.

That has to be the longest sentence I have read on this forum.

Nonetheless, if you work in a High Street store I would imagine that, unless you put the actual street number on the order and not just the name of he shop, it would be quite difficult to find. Also I would imagine parking would be a bit of an issue as well.

If you have resolved to not use any company who contract their deliveries to Hermes, who will you buy from?

I think you'll find you do! DSR regs only kick in after you've received the product(s) and then you have 7 working days in which to return item(s) for full refund. This would not apply in the case of a non-delivery.

    Is the wrong answer!

There was an article on BBC Breakfast news this morning about house sitters (people being employed to sit in someone's house to receive a delivery). In this case the parcel DID arrive - and it was sent by MyHermes. :D
