The bin is a safe place? Are you kidding me? Bins are for rubbish, not a place to store your nice brand new things you've just spent your hard earned cash on. While I sympathise that a lot of the drivers for couriers are on low wage, I really hate for my parcels to be delivered to a bin! And I would feel the same if my postie decided to do this. I live in a not so good area, according to Hermes and HND they've both delivered parcels to my bin. Needless to say both went missing. One I suspect went with the bin men. The other I think the local hoodlums spotted.

I think they are all on a low wage.
Surely, if you want it to be left in a safeplace, then you should specify that with the company sending it out. Like my catalogue, I've stated that my parcels can be left with my neighbour, although I'm home most of the time.

That would be great. I am sure the couriers would love to have clear, concise and accurate instructions.
It turned out my parcel had been left with a neighbour at the other end of the street and she came up to my door with it last night. But the courier had still signed my name. Which I do object to.

    How do you know that?
And yes, ordering stuff online, I try to be home for it being delivered, unfortunately it's not always possible when you don't know when it's being delivered.

If you have specified a day and time, I am sure the vast majority of parcels get delivered according to that schedule. We have a courier who delivers at the time specified, but if he can't or we are out anyway way he leaves it in a safe place in our garden that we have arranged with him. If it's not suitable to be left out, he will leave it with a neighbour, or he will call back when it is more appropriate.

If a driver doesn't get paid unless the parcel is delivered, then there's the reason why there seems to be so many false signatures being reported.

    How many get reported?

  • Well, these incompetent idiots still haven't delivered my parcel or made any attempt to so I've contacted amazon again and they have sent out a replacement. Thankfully amazon are the sort of company that can pick up the pieces after the horrendous service these muppets provide.

I would urge anyone thinking of using this company to send a parcel to choose another and if you know a retailer will use them to deliver something then choose a retailer who will not.

    Pick up the pieces? Really?

It's a parcel, not the tragic murder of a whole family.

I have no idea, but I would imagine that if they are "reported," they get recorded; otherwise they are not "reported."

Now if only all companies were so efficient, it would make life easier all round!! :D

City Link have reported that your order is 'On Delivery Van'
This email confirms that City Link have received your package(s) and sorted them for delivery to you later today. Unless you have given instructions for the package(s) to be left somewhere, please ensure somebody will be in to sign for the delivery.

Please ensure you are in for your delivery
City Link will attempt just twice to deliver your package. If you are not in on both of these occasions (and you have not made arrangements to have it left somewhere safe) then you will be required to pay a charge of £7.20 per extra delivery attempt. If the item cannot be delivered and so comes back to us then we will have to charge an additional fee. We do not profit out of either of these charges - we simply charge you what City Link will charge us.

Can I contact City Link Customer Services?
Of course, their number is 08444 930 932.

  • Definitely avoid buying online from retailers using Hermes. My parcel was apparently delivered, left in garage last saturday evening. I was at home most of saturday, definitely in the evening and do not have a garage! Spent this morning asking neighbours and trying to get hold of DPD who use Hermes couriers. DPD rang me later today to say that Hermes are investigating and will get back to me by phone - is no longer anything to do with DPD.

Tried to ring Redfoot shoes who i bought the item from and no answer - tried various times during the day and still no answer or a 'mailbox is full' message. So now have emailed them asking them to sort the problem out and in the meantime i will contact my credit card company.

In future I will stick to the good old fashioned method of going to a shop to buy something. Buying online is great - having it delivered is rubbish.

Because no one is going to pay the seven pounds twenty excess delivery charge.
