I don't think the courier gives a hoot what you have paid, because he just gets paid the same anyway. Why should he deliver your parcels for a loss? Why should he pay you to deliver your parcels?

What the hell are you talking about?! So if she fails to deliver my parcel she has to pay me?! You don't make any sense whatsoever.

If you expect a courier to be on call for you twenty-four hours a day and then have to deliver you parcel another time, they will be working at a loss. Therefore, they will be paying you to deliver your parcel.

No, I expect a courier to deliver a parcel on the day they state they will as I will have made arrangements to be home that day to receive it. If they cant be bothered to do that then it's their fault if they make a loss. And I can't guarantee to be at home to take receipt of delivery if they decide to come on a different day than stated or pre-arranged!

I think it would be a good idea if the companies we buy from were to offer a choice of couriers. I would opt for dhl or royal mail ad both have collection depots 2 miles from me so nice and easy for me to pick up. Would also be good if you could tick an option to collect from the depot so the courier didn't have a wasted journey and would enable them to keep their costs low. Clearly delivering goods these days is becoming more problematic so companies and couriers need to re look at the service they offer. I'd also be quite happy to have my parcels delivered to my local convenience store and collect them from there, they could either charge a handling fee to me or be paid by the courier because they're saving money by delivering 10-20 parcels to 1 address rather than 10-20 individual ones.

But, how about you pay the courier the extra seven pounds per parcel that you said you would be willing to pay, to have your parcels delivered when you want?

I didn't say an extra £7 I said I would pay £7 delivery charge. If te company I ordered from charged me £2 I would be happy to pay the courier an extra £5 to deliver my parcel. This however is not going to work for the majority of people so other options should be looked at. I'm not against any couriers and see perfectly valid issues from their side however you seem completely unable to see reasoable issues from a customers point of view and seem intent on picking arguments with everyone rather than making sensible comments.

And you seem to be unable to see it from the courier's point of view. I have come up with a solution for you, but you now seem to be unwilling to carry out the proposed remedy

I didn't say you were against any particular courier, I have no idea where you got that impression from. Why would the courier turn down an extra five pounds to deliver your parcel when you want it?

When you say, "This however is not going to work for the majority of people," I don't really see why not. If people are prepared to pay extra, as everyone on this thread who has complained about Hermes's couriers seems to agree with, I see no problem with them all putting their money where their mouths are and paying the courier any extra they are willing to pay for an enhanced service, directly into that courier's pocket.

This won't work for the majority because it would only work for at home delivery couriers. The local dhl courier can't take your parcel home with him and deliver it to you for an extra £5.

But the "local DHL driver" is not in the majority. The home delivery couriers are very much in the majority.

Majority of courier services give you an estimated deslivery date and don't infact guarantee a delivery date. If you want guaranteed then you have to pay about £10 for the service (ParcelForce for example).

Last christmas I was getting phone calls around the 15th.. "How much is delivery? Can you have my goods here before Christmas?"
They was then presented with 2 options "Delivery is £3.99 or we can guarantee deliver before Christmas for £9.99".
A measly 5%ish chose the guaranteed service! Yet about 70% complained when their item arrived beetween Christmas & New year.

    Go figure.

I'm interested in your response to Flyboy's Q... if you wan't delivery why not phone the driver and offer to pay him directly the extra £5? I'm betting many drivers would do it.... i'm also betting after the first couple of times you'd soon change your mind.
