I called QVC and in all fariness a courier was called and arranged to come at my convenience. The courier came, I waved bye bye to my laptop and that was he end of it...or so I thought!

The next thing I know, four weeks later QVC takes the outstanding balance out of my account. The laptop never made it back to QVC and they launched an investigation.

WARNING! I just found out that Hermes does NOT provide compensation for laptop or other computer equipment.

So QVC or Amazon or whoever uses Hermes to deliver a laptop is taking a huge risk.

Well, if Scotty can beam it from Perth to Newmarket, he can beam it to me in Shetland! If it is really "out for delivery" at Newmarket, the poor driver got a 600+ miles drive and 100+ miles swim to get to me!:rotfl:

You do realise there's a Newmarket on the Isle of Lewis? ;)

and? the weigh up the risk(plus their contracts are different to those offered to smaller customers)
save a few £ on each delivery and a few losses/damages can be written off
its all about % of cost v loss

I ordered a laptop from QVC that I returned as it broke *sigh*.

Obviously it's not QVCs fault but it's very frustrating that I had to go on and photocopy the recepit Hermes has given me and send it to their admin department. It makes me shudder to think if I didn't have that little piece of card I would be almost four hundred pounds out of pocket.

I order an awful lot - and I mean absolutely shedloads - of stuff from the internet and this is the first time I have come across this.

    Why "obviously?"

Yes I do. But it is still a long swim from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to Shetland. Shetland is not in a box just off the coast of Aberdeen you know? ;)

I didn't realise just how far off the coast of Scotland it is until I looked at Google maps! :D

Just to say, I ordered a carpet cleaner from Ideal World shopping channel. Used it on my hall carpet and then decided - as the presenter of the show kept suggesting - to send it back if you are not happy.

It cost £5.99 to have it delivered to me. I used Hermes (well www.myhermes.co.uk) to return it and it cost me £7 ish.

They came when they agreed to and the package arrived in Peterborough just fine.

I can't fault them for their service.

Also the carpet looks grand and it was cheaper than renting a Rug Doctor from B&Q! :rotfl:

Computer equipment is also a non-compensation item with DHL, HDNL, CityLink and other mainstream suppliers. Not just MyHermes.

Bear in mind that if its damaged they won't pay compensation -- if its "lost" then i'm pretty sure you can (I have made successful claims in the past for a lost and non-compensation item).
