Hey Dinah and everyone else!!
I have always been a lurker but the old thread (and seemingly this one!) moves so fast i thought I would never be able to keep up but now I want to try (if you guys will have me?!)
I think your story is beautiful and you have done really really well, such a DFW inspiration and the way you have got NIM on board is wonderful. My boyfriend is trying but lets not lie, its really not working! or his idea of saving is only having one take away a week (hes a student)
I hope you carry on with your sucess and also go ahead - book Paris, I think you deserve it!

oh yeah also have you seen the £25 refer a friend to ING on the refferals board? by opening a savings account with £1 with ING you can earn £25! Let me know if you want more details!

Dumbo here posted on old thread! Cut and pasted below!

Morning all.
Last nights free trip to the theatre was fun, and a pretty different date to our usual. Have to admit the performance didn't grab me though, I prefer pure drama, dancing housewives don't do it for me!
NIM has been offered more days on the farm next week, so he'll be doing 5 days there as well as 4 poss 5 evenings in the call centre, which is good as it means we actually meet our outgoings.
Very excited for tomorrow, DFD! Feel like I ought to be doing something to celebrate really, bottle of champagne at the very least!
NIM is going to need to go into town on Monday to open the ISA (keep hoping a better one will pop up but no luck!) and I'm opening a second Egg saver in his name this evening for saving the rent. Think I need to get a little book or something to write down all our account names and numbers!
I keep all ours in an address book, you know the A-Z type, easier to find, and the passwords etc. are written in criptic clues (so cryptic even I don't know what they are some times)

Just read the opening post on this thread and am in tears now, you are such an insperation, I wish you and NIM all the very best in your quest for a great, well deserved life

You think you're ever going to get rid of me?! Although then I might be forced kicking and screaming off DFW onto MFW. Still TPA seems to be doing amazingly well over there.
Thank you, its partly due to your determination, made me realise we could do it too!

I'm actually trying not to post on my own thread for fear of scaring people away!
Thanks for your kind words TPA, means a lot to me. It's really lovely how many people have taken the time to post and say congratulations, makes the whole slog seem worth it.
7 days till the meet!
NIM and I went out today to
1) Get mums mothers day pressie as was out of stock at the time, perfume from Boots and I have about £31 of points so only £14 spend!
2) Put underwater cameras in for processing
3) Return his cashmere jumper to Tesco as it's gone wierdly bobbly and looks knackered after only a month
4) Buy a book on the lake district to celebrate DF-ness
5) Pick up his suit from the dry-cleaners for his interview Monday
6) Take the desktop into the poorly computer shop as its not powering up
7) Get me a new pair of sunglasses as mine cracked on the way back from Egypt.
8) Go have a nosey around the new showhouses near Tesco
9) Get some new bulbs for the car as both brake lights aren't working and hopefully its just blown bulbs
I honestly thought this would be an easy to do list. However the perfume apparently was limited edition and they don't think they are getting any more in, so going to ask a friend who works in a different Boots to see if she can source some for me with her 20% discount. Then Tesco said we had to have a receipt to show that it came from them (apparently neck labels don't count!), and they didn't have any of my sunglasses in stock to replace the broken pair. The poorly computer shop said it was £40 for a diagnosis , and they wouldn't be able to look at it until next Friday. And it took forever to get the suits as we didn't have the receipts for them and she couldn't find it in the system! By this point the show houses were closed as well!
Also, I couldn't bring myself to buy the book! NIM and I ended up in the ironically named shop 'Go Outdoors!', a huge, lightless, airless warehouse of an outdoor shop. We wandered around trying out all the tents, going to try braving that camping thing for some cheap weekends in the summer. However we figure we can wait until nearer the time to actually get our stuff, once NIM knows what is happening with the jobs and all.
I wanted to get my book on walks in the lake district from Go Outdoors, but I couldn't bare to part with the money! So I came home, and used £30 of free Dooyoo vouchers to get 'Cool Camping: England', 'The Most Amazing Places to Visit in Britain' and 'Great Mountain Days in the Lake District: 50 Classic Routes Exploring the Lakeland Fells'.
Despite not really buying anything, felt like an expensive day, as spent £13 on the dry cleaning, £12 on the two cameras to be processed, and £3 on the bulbs. We know at least £40 is coming for the computer too! Very glad we're not pushing for Paris now - tentdom here we come!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Hey Dinah,
Congratulations on becoming debt-free! You deserve it - I don't know anyone who has worked as hard as you to get rid of your debts!
Like many others, I'm gonna try and keep up with this thread, even though I can see it moving as fast as the other thread!
Sucks your day turned out to be quite expensive, but good you managed to get the books using the dooyoo vouchers!

Quick question for all those who post and lurk. Does anyone know how the law stands in england as regards returning items. I'd research it myself but I physically have neither the time or energy at the moment. In ireland iirc no proof of purchase etc is needed and they are required to either replace, repair or fully refund the purchase price, I was set to argue this with the guy at the counter but he looked like I feel at the end of a call centre shift and I am not a nice person then. And if I was wrong to assume that it is the same over here then I was boned totally.
So in short what do I need to do to get my £20 (which is the most I ever spend on a jumper in my life...EVER) back as they are out of stock and he would only give me back 10 without my reciept as proof of purchase.
Ok so not such a quick question, sorry guys and galsThis was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -
I think if you don't have a receipt then they don't have to give you anything back although some stores like m & s where i used to work would give you back what the item was worth now back in vouchers as a goodwill gesture. Someone may know better than me though.
Anyway I do not know why I am up so early!
We booked our holiday yesterday to Zante, really excited. We will be going in two weeks today.0 -
Hi NIM unless you have recepits they are under no obligation to give you the money back (i work in a clothes shop, thats how i know!), although if they can clearly see its from their shop most places usually let u do an exchange or give vouchersBiggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0
