There's embracing your curves if you're a healthy size 10-12 and blessed with the hourglass figure and there's being plain old fat and acting like it's sexy because you're 'curvy'. I have some overweight friends who bang on about their 'curves' and boobs, but if they were slim they'd be a normal size so why be so proud of it?
OH loves being active so he wants me to share his love of exercise which is why he's so keen for me to go to the gym, but he also wants me to stay as fit and healthy (and slim) as possible because he knows I'll be miserable if I get fat. I suppose it's that old 'it's for your own good!' thing!
And as far as Beth Ditto as an 'example' of a 'sexy' bigger lady... eugh, she's an advert for healthy eating IMO!

It's all this 'embrace your curves' stuff - but the people they use as examples are Kelly Brook and Scarlett Johanssen - no way they're over a 12!

Makes my blood boil too x

Well after all your talk I was offered to go on a 9 mile bike ride and stupidly said yes. So when I can't walk right tomorrow, it's all your pro-gym peoples fault.

    :p

Birdie - I know what you mean! My old friend 'embraces her curves' and she's a hefty size 18 (only 2 weeks older than me!) she works at McDonalds too, I have to admit one time me and OH went we saw her and decided to go to and get some fruit from Morrisons - how bad is that? :o

I'm 100% with you, there is 'embracing your curves' and 'embracing obesity'. I'd describe me as curvy, at a size 10 with 34D chest but 28" waist. Someone size 14-16 I'd describe as a bit tubby generally, someone over this needs to accept they're damaging their bodies, and being proud of being 'curvy' doesn't actually reduce the pressure you are putting on your organs, or reduce the risk of joint damage or heart attack, so stop being proud, accept that fat is damage, and deal with it.

My best friend is big, about an 18-20 but she knows she's big and is ashamed of it, not enough to diet and do exercise, but she covers up and shrinks into the background. It makes me mad because all she ever does is moan about hating herself but won't listen when I try to encourage her to help herself. I think she just wants a magic pill to make the fat dissolve! She's really pretty and has a great personality but she has no self confidence so she's single, and will be forever if she doesn't change her attitude towards herself, how can someone love you if you don't love yourself?

Call a spade a spade there dear! I know what you mean though and they DO always go on about their boobs, makes us mere mortals feel inferior :o

Yay, just sold a book on Amazon! I think I'll get about £2 profit once postage is taken off. Weird as I wasn't even the lowest price. Can't complain though, will get some more listed tonight after the killer bike ride.

ETA: I quite like Beth Ditto! :o I think she's really quite pretty (when not sweating and biting her foot) she's a bit loud and out there but in interviews she seems so nice.

Well said! I know that people probably think that we're just fat bashing but people need to accept that it is not good to be fat. It's only in the last 50 years that obesity became a problem, because we're all lazy now. You should see the munters living near me now, I don't think they know what a vegetable is! And there are about 30 bike racks in the garage, I'll bet you any money that there will only ever be 2 bikes in there, they'll belong to me and OH!
People don't have a problem having a go at smokers, telling them how awful they smell and how bad it is etc but to do the same to an overweight person is off limits... double standards!

I think its because smoking is seen as harming someone else passively, and its littering the streets, whereas being overweight doesn't hurt anyone else (tell that to the 5 year old whose mum just dropped dead with a heart attack, see if he says it doesn't hurt).

  • Good afternoon all!

Thinks she will have to find somewhere else to post due to all the fat bashing..omg if you could see a photo of me! However I would say what I do with my own body does not harm others!
